Rock Band + Wii = ugh.
for the full article, click here
basically, Wii owners get the PS2 version.
FTA: "The feature set is a lot closer to the PS2 version of Rock Band [...] We've decided to focus on getting the core gameplay on to the Wii and focus on making that awesome."
no online play.
no DLC.
no character creation.
no leaderboards.
no band world tour.
cannot use your current GH plastic guitar to play (no HUGE surprise, but still...).
63 songs, 5 of which are "bonus."
June 22.
$170.
commenters on various gaming sites are being absolutely ruthless, and i feel for good cause. i know i don't know everything about what makes online play work, but for chrissake, can it be that hard to transmit a bit of timed button-mashing across the interwebz?
i've been waiting for this for quite some time. i'd played my buddy's xbox 360 Rock Band and fell in love immediately, especially with the online play and character creation.
way to drop the ball, Harmonix!
suck it, trebek.

I find it funny that they take out most of what makes the game but keep the price the same.
they should drop the price $10 for each feature that is missing.

<troll>It is when your console has no online infrastructure, and it's idea of friends lists is a separate one for each game!</troll>
Truth be told, the omission of online play isn't that big a deal; I haven't even played online because playing with your real-life friends is so much better.
The omission of DLC makes sense to me; 4-5 songs and the Wii's internal storage would be filled up completely. Even throwing the songs on an SD card might not be acceptable to Nintendo; no other game allows loading from the SD card does it? Still sucks though. DLC is one of the reasons Tuesday is so much fun!
There's really no excuse for the lack of the other features though.

Should've bought a real console. D'oh! Did I just say that out loud!

Really I don't see how this is Harmonix fault. They gotta match the game to the box it plays on.

Re: Rock Band + Wii = ugh.
i just don't think they're trying hard enough. seriously. fault me for that logic, but i just think developers are lazy about porting stuff to the Wii. how is it that Nintendo can squeeze such gorgeous visuals out of their games (SM Galaxy, SSBB) and others just seem to think PS2 quality crap will suffice?
i know its Nintendo's system, so perhaps they have a better inside track on how to get the most out of the box, but c'mon... the system's been out for quite some time now.
(i know we're not really talking graphics in the this thread, but it's all i've got for now. i'm in a time crunch.)

I almost did.
But then I found out that on the other side of the province there is a place where Wiis stay on shelves overnight.
Thanks for clicking.

Re: Rock Band + Wii = ugh.
I can live without DLC or online play, but the lack of character creation is absolutely mind-boggling. Their giving Wii owners the PS2 version of the game for the PS3/360 price, 6 months late, which is just a rip-off.

I love the wii, but I would only buy this for the 360.

Lazy, smurfy, half-assed port with a number of inexplicable and inexcusable omissions. I would have been first in line to buy a real version of Rock Band for the Wii, but in this case I have better things to spend my $170 on. Like three and a half other Wii games.

At least the Wii version will get a Wireless guitar (or will it be a husk like Wii GHIII? Who knows), but you can forget online co-op play, online competition, online leaderboards or downloadable content.
Don't you DARE tell me that none of that is important.
