Need help with port numbers stuff

I want to get to my mac with vnc and afp but i'm on airport at home and i have a local i.p.
how do i set up me airport base station to forward ports so i can get to my mac from anywhere?
I turned on NAT and in port mapping it wants a public port and private port number as well as the private i.p. to forward which is alway set to 172.xx.x.xxx which is my local. my router i.p. is 72.xxx.xx.xxx
What ports do i need to forward to get afp and vnc to work?

Well NAT-PMP on the basestation doesn't really require you to go in and do manual port forwarding. It should be automatic for those services.

Re: Need help with port numbers stuff

I'm on a closed network. This is a shared connection thru Airport. I am perfectly capable of using VNC and AFP inside my own network, but when I try to get back to my mac from away, tough luck.

I mapped ports 5500, 5800 & 5900 and VNC is now working outside my network. I still can't figure out what ports to map for AFP to work?

Actually no. NAT-PMP does port mapping automatically. So no, you don't need to go setting up forwarding various ports. The link I provided in my first post has a good summary of it.
