I have a Apple //c, it's really very cute.
Pretty sure you could get one for cheap at eBay...

Re: Apple //
What's so bad about eBay? The only potential problem I see is the cost of shipping exceeding the value of the machine. But it's not that bad. You might also find luck with Craig's List. In either case, you might be able to negotiate local pickup and waive the shipping.
The last possibility is scoring one for free from a School on garbage day. My university's Chemistry department still hangs on to a few Apple //e's to run some chem software (yes, the software is still being maintained after some 30 years).

You might want to check with B&R Computing, they have a lot of older stuff. I've bought from them before and highly recommend them.

I second the school thing. My high school auto's garage has an Apple II sitting around for using this old simulator about building cars and all of the different components that you can use.

Re: Apple //
Probably too late looking for schools dumping theirs. I think they all dumped their apples almost a decade ago. They usually just dump them so you might get it for free if you find one.

Though if they're any left than that means that there is a teacher that is emotionally attached to it or still needs it.
Thanks for clicking.

Re: Apple //
I'm thinking the "emotionally attached teacher" is a more likely answer. My autos teacher must have a budget for tools that he can spend every year, because there was always one cool new and expensive tool every year I was in there. Last year it was a diagnostic scanner with a full color LCD (and a big one at that). I'm sure the Apple was that cool new tool one year.

This interests me. For fun, I've been tracking down evidence of Apple II machines still in active non-hobbyist use (example 1, example 2). I'd be curious to know more details of the software those machines are running... any chance you could get pics?

Re: Apple //
The program that the one in my school was running was called Car Builder. In fact, that was the only program it had. One big ol' floppy (two drives, but we only had one program...). It was more of a game than a real life simulation, but I think my teacher just liked the idea that it allowed students to compare different engine/body/suspension combinations and see what happened with them. I think it was available for Windows too, but he has the Apple...and it's still there and kicking....
