spay and neuter your freakin' cats !!!

I just took a gander over at Yahoo! Questions - pet secton - cats.

It seems that ever freakin' post is about somebodies cat having had kittens or is pregnant etc. - and these obviously are not fancy cat breeders.

What the hell is wrong with these people?
It isn't that expensive to have your cat fixed. Some places will even do it at cost. Some places even will do it for free if you ask nicely and tell them you are to poor.

I love cats - but damn, there's a lot of cats having babies.

As it happens I'm being involved with the spaying of two kittens tomorrow. So I guess I'm doing my part.

At least, we find Res's true identity!  He's Bob Barker!

But I agree, people should have their pets fixed, unless they own them specifically for pedigree breeding or whatnot.

Hmmm.  I guess Res doesn't want to visit my farm then.  We currently have 6 batches of kittens, and 1 or 2 more on the way.  Counting the kittens, we have about 30 cats.  Most are just stray cats that showed up here, and decided to stay.  I figure about half will make it through the next winter, and then they will multiply again!

AWWW!!! THEY'RE SUCH CUTE WITTLE KITTIES!  smile

Yeah - especially if people are dumping them there.
Farms are different anyway as they provide some rodent control.

Don't forget crickets and grasshoppers...cats eat crickets and grasshoppers too.

That cat food company ran an ad for the food that cats just naturally crave, then they presented their "beef" flavored cat food.  When was the last time you saw a housecat take down a cow for dinner?

Re: spay and neuter your freakin' cats !!!

You know what's interesting - it is against the law for cat food companies to use rodents in the production of cat food. OK - I can't site the law - but that's what I was told. Something about disease prevention, mice and rats are on the nono list for food products, human or feline.

They do, however, allow mouse products for reptilian consumption - but if you breed more than a certain number of mice a year (500 if I remember) you technically have to get permit and yearly inspection from department of agriculture, and they can't be sold as food products for people, cats, or dogs.

Some of our cats do pile up on the cows to sleep.  And the cows generally lay down when the cats hop up there, so I guess it could happen (it'd take a hell of a lot of cats though...)

Do calves count?

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b181/bigrich_d/Kitty.jpg

We do feed the cats milk, water, and food (they go through 40lbs a week! eek ), and they do a pretty good job of taking care of the mice and rats and birds and rabbits and, well you get the point.

Our cats seem to prefer turkey and chicken over beef, though there was a bit of a tussle over that beef liver and heart my dad gave them last year.  Seems a few of the tomcats thought they should all get the same piece...  lol

Sort of like pork for people, but with the opposite effect.  The pigs have been isolated from the wild and no longer carry trichinosis problems.  It is now okay to eat, and you don't even need to cook it throughly.  (Can't stand raw pork, chicken or turkey.)

The mice have been isolated but can't be used as a food supply for pets.  Something they'd just naturally crave too.

Also, all of the cats I've had, loved chicken the best.  Even had one that enjoyed corn-on-the-cob, mostly just the cob though.

Re: spay and neuter your freakin' cats !!!

Both of my furry-kins (one male chihuahua, one female cat) have been fixed.

Actually, a couple of neighborhoods in my area have feral cat problems. What's worse, people actually put food out for the cats, but don't provide them with shelter or medical care. Then the cats use everyone's yards as big litter boxes.
I love cats and dogs but I feel that feeding feral cats only makes their lives more miserable because it leads to overpopulation.
I think the county animal control is gonna round up some of the strays. Hopefully they'll tell people to stop feeding the cats.  Some of the neighbors in my aunt's neighborhood have complained to the dummies feeding the feral cats. However, some of them responded with a nasty attitude and said they could feed the cats if they felt like it and no one else is taking care of them. Cats are very good at taking care of themselves. If I'm going to feed a feral cat, I'm gonna let it live in my house and take it to the vet and get it fixed and give it shots. Whatever, I'm gonna let the county yell at them.

My cat is spayed and stays inside except for when she goes into the back yard with Sadie to guard her.

Re: spay and neuter your freakin' cats !!!

My mom took in a stray that was already pregnant.  They gave all the kittens to homes where they are all cared for, and they were all fixed.  Their next door neighbor, however, is a HUGE problem.  They have one or two cats, but don't  get them fixed, and never keep them inside.  So every few months, there is an outbreak of kittens around the neighborhood.  Most are feral, which is sad.  They just don't care.  I hate people like that.  But since they don't actually keep all the cats, and turn them out into the cold, they don't feel that there is anything wrong
