Built in Firewire dead. How to get logging to quit complaining?
I have a Quicksilver 2002 933Mhz, 1.5 Gb RAM, OS X 10.4.11. My built in Firewire bus stopped working (tried everything to get it to work). Finally I bought a PCI firewire card that works great. My problem is that when I check the Console logs I am getting line after line of "Apr 7 20:21:49 xxx-xxxxxx-Computer kernel[0]: FireWire (OHCI) Lucent ID 5811 built-in: no valid selfIDs for more than 2 minutes after bus reset." every couple of seconds or so, and when I mean line after line I mean hundreds of lines - until I perform maintenance and reset/rotate the logs. Is there a way to turn off logging for the broken built-in firewire bus, and will it affect my system, writing a log entry every few seconds must end up not being good - right?

dose the pci firewire card have its own drivers? if so, you could disable the ones that are built into the os. otherwise, you might just have to live with it.

This page suggests trying to resetting the PMU. I'm not sure, but I think the author implies that his G4's FireWire was working again afterwards.
BTW: I'm not absolutely certain that this applies to your G4, but here is an illustration of a QS motherboard showing the location of the PMU button in the lower right next to the battery.

Re: Built in Firewire dead. How to get logging to quit complaining?
I knew someone would suggest what I have already tried several times, D'Eyncourt, that all failed which is why I got a PCI card - the internal Firewire bus is definitely dead. Freezer Mac, how would I disable the internal drivers, the card I bought was a Plug N Play card and for the Mac which required no drivers? Is this something I have to live with? And is it reducing the efficiency of my Mac
