If I install OS 10.5 on my G4...
...will I still be able to boot into OS 9? I've got 10.4.X on there right now, and can do so. I have very specific reasons for wanting to boot into OS 9, mind you.

Boot? I don't see why not. It's Classic that won't work.
Unless 10.5 does something funny to the boot record.
Clone to a backup and give it a shot?

Looks like te 10.5 Disk Utility lacks the option to install OS9 drivers which are needed to boot OS9.
I have no clue if 10.5 borks previously installed drivers.
I’m not ready to make nice-I’m not ready to back down-I’m still mad as hell and

According to below discussion; you can reboot into Mac OS 9 without any problems. However; there is caution that if you format the drive; you probably want to use the OS 9 disk to do so. Apparently Leopard doesn't want any part in making OS 9 bootable.
If you want to format the drive; boot up from the OS 9 disk use Drive Setup in the OS 9 disk on the Desktop to format it. Else-wise, you can try to partition it with the Leopard DVD in Disk Utility; you just want to make sure you have OS 9 Drivers checked & Mac OS Extended (Journaled) chosen. If no option; then it won't work.
NOTE: Just upgrading to Leopard will still allow you to boot in to 9.
• You must have an 800 Mhz or faster G4 computer and 512 MB RAM (I recommend)
