Service Providers that do CPU upgrades
Does anyone know if there are any companies that can/will upgrade an iMac Core DUO CPU 2.0 gHz to a Core 2 Duo CPU?

Ya if its just a simple socket drop in and out then you would be throwing money away by having some "tech" do it for you then charge you some insane price. PC repair shops = "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany."

I'm not sure how clear these are, but here is Accelerate Your Mac's page on taking apart the white iMacs with Intel CPUs. The CPU is in a socket from which it can be removed (as can be seen here, which is from the first of the visual guides linked at the end of the first page above.

Swear the last one I went in there was some tech guy waving his hand ala "these are the droids you are looking for" at a customer convincing him doing the simplest of tasks would be only possible for a tech who would rape his wallet.
Why was I in one? Because I refused to pay insane prices for parts at Best Buy/Circuit City and CompUSA went out of business. When I need parts in a flash, I can't wait for online resellers...I just gotta suck it up and head into the rancor pit with a good blaster at my side

I feel the same way.
Most of the time I will go to Fry's but even there I have seen Greedo and his ilk hiding in the shadows.
