Is that what those things are called, I always just called them threatening Christian comics. I have gotten so many of them over the years. They are usually good for a laugh then right into the trash. I don't know why christians feel the tremendous urge to recruit me. Actually, back when I was in high school there was a tract that was often left that appeared to be cash from the outside.  The inside said that the pamphlet was more important than money.

OMG, Chick tracts are hilarious! There are parodies of course, but the originals are so bad, the parodies are almost unnecessary.

And for shame res, they're a great way to witness! They get read! Though I don't think Jack realizes how many people are laughing when they're done reading them...

Any reason why? A lot of waiters/waitresses, including my brother, make only several dollars per hour (my brother started at $2something). They make they're living through tips.

Ya and guess why they get paid only so little? Because everyone gives ''tips''.
If they wouldn't get tips, they (and your brother) would never work in that place for $2.

I think it's just a bit weird that this custum exist, sure we also give tips but mostly not and when we do just a a little like 2-5 euro's. But they get paid good over here so we think it's a bit silly giving tips.

Re: God doesn't tip

It is silly. Servers should simply be paid for their work like everyone else. Tipping is stupid. IIRC, the whole tip differential thing isn't allowed here. Servers have to get paid minimum like everyone else - which is much higher. Here in the city, they have to be given benefits too, or pay into a fund that will provide benefits. The restaurants are fighting it tooth and nail.

Perhaps it is.  It probably does result in better service, however (as food costs would go up significantly if the restaurant paid the servers at a rate near what they usually make).

Waiting tables is not easy work.  I wouldn't even think about doing it if the pay was anywhere near the minimum wage.

I agree that servers should get paid minimum like everyone else - and I believe that is CA law - but minimum is still below livable wage.

For your college student living off of mom and dad and loans, minimum wage may be enough, but for the vast majority of Californians, minimum wage is not a livable income - especially if you want to put any away for a rainy day and/or retirement.

If waiting tables was an entry level job - minimum wage might be appropriate, but the good waiters have been doing it for years and are extremely skilled at what they do.

I don't believe people should tip out of obligation to do so, but I do think people should tip out of gratuity for the service they receive. If you can afford a 20% tip then you should do so. If you are still low on the food chain and can only afford a 10% tip then that's what you can afford, and you shouldn't feel bad about it.

Re: God doesn't tip

If you can't "afford" to pay an adequate tip....why on earth would you be eating at such an expensive restaurant to begin with?

It doesn't make sense to assert that someone might find themselves in the position of being able to afford an expensive meal but not being able to afford to pay a small percentage of that price to the server.

If you insist upon dining at restaurants that you cannot truly "afford" to eat at, you should alert the server from the beginning that they will receive a maximum of 10%, no matter what.

BTW I work as a server in a restaurant and depend entirely on my tips for income.
I understand some people due to cultural or economic reasons tip poorly, IMO, or not at all that's the nature of the game but if we want to have the same debate for 10 or more pages fine by me  shrug
