"LCC Update"

Every once in a while since I updated to the latest Logitech mouse driver for my MX1000 this app opens.

"LCC Update.app"

And that's it. It opens. But sits in the Dock. Nothing happens. It doesn't show any windows. Nothing at all. If I click on it there is no interface. Only a menubar with the menu item. Nothing else. I can quit it without problems. But there doesn't seem to be any explanation for why it is opening.

It doesn't seem to update anything. It doesn't display any notifications. If I go into the Preferences for the drivers it says I am up to date so it's not really updating anything. Or is it? Because I can't tell.

It happens like once in a while. Maybe it is updating silently, but that seems silly and unsafe. Especially since it could pop up right as I shut down. I'm just confused is all. confused

There's an app in my Utilities called "Logitech Control Center Update", but it seems to perform differently. In that it actually does something.

In my console it seems it's loaded automatically, but it doesn't explain why it sits there instead of automatically quitting when done.

Re: "LCC Update"

Yeah, I get it too on a MacBook with a Bluetooth Logitech. Sometimes it wakes up and that LCC Update is active even if the mouse isn't powered on. I just Quit the app & go on about my happy way.

Re: "LCC Update"

I never even installed the LCC for my new Logitech. I use SteerMouse instead

Now, where in the name of... did I put that thing that I forgot what it was and why I was looking for it?

Same, I use Steermouse. Logitech doesn't have a clue how to program for OS X (they used to use Application Enhancer instead of writing real drivers).

Re: "LCC Update"

So, you'd rather pay $20 for a shareware driver? I don't have that much trouble with LCC. To each their own I guess.

Re: "LCC Update"

If I already own the mouse, yes. I unfortunately only learned the suckiness that is logitech "drivers" after I bought the mouse. I'd rather buy real drivers than buy a completely new mouse to ensure it won't screw my system up when I update it.

Re: "LCC Update"

i personally use a generic mouse with usb overdrive. that way, i can use any cheap mouse i want  and still have the same functionality of a better mouse. it is also a necessity for using my keypads and joysticks.

Re: "LCC Update"

Yeah, I'd really rather not pay extra. I'll live with my occasional not-wanting-to-quit updater. I notice it once in a while launching and quitting immediately, only once in a while does it decide to stay open. Like once every couple weeks.

Re: "LCC Update"

I upgraded to the latest driver and I wish I hadn't.  It's worse now.  I also get that LCC app showing up once in a while.

Re: "LCC Update"

You know, I too am latest update, but the only problem I have with the latest driver is the scrolling is smurfy. Crappy. smurf. Smurf. Horrible. The acceleration doesn't work at al. Scroll a little and it moves a pixel. Scroll more and it jumps three pages. I can't smoothly scroll anymore. But I still will not pay $20 to fix what should work without having to pay extra. That's like buying an eyeTV then paying to use another party's app for TV browsing.

My problem is that after a restart, it takes 10-15 seconds before my preferred mouse speed kicks in.  Annoying++

Re: "LCC Update"

Yeah. sad I have to wait. Though really, it's not a big deal. I have to wait for DragThing, WeatherPop, Alarm Clock 2, MenuCalendarClock, iScrobbler, PTH Pasteboard and Connect360 (As well as whatever else is in the background.) to show up anyway. Usually takes like a half a minute or so.

Re: "LCC Update"

Go into system preferences, select Logitech Control Center, select your device to configure, when the Device Manager app opens, go into the app menu and deselect the Check for updates automatically.

Re: "LCC Update"

And send in bug reports to logitech. Hopefully they'll get a clue some day.

Re: "LCC Update"

Turning the feature off kind of seems like a waste. I don't keep up with every single app I own, so I like having everything check for its own updates. I'd never know when Logitech came out with an update if I turned it off. I didn't even know about the current version until I was looking at a thread at Arstechnica. I didn't have checking turned on before.

Re: "LCC Update"

I haven't used a MS mouse since 2005. I have no idea. I opted for the MX1000 because of its features. Replaced a first generation 2000 Intellimouse Explorer. Was having no problems with it then. Still working fine on my brother's computer. No complaints out of him. It won't die. It's 8 years old. It won't die!
