Apple Greed and the iPod Video Composite Cable

If you're like me and you enjoyed using your ipod 5G to watch video on a docking station (I use the Sonic Impact v55) you may feel a victim when you're forced to upgrade to the new "classic" unit.
My 5G 30Gig died so I purchased an 80 gig classic. I placed it in the video docking station but it would not play despite the salesman's insistance that it was 'Backward compatible."
I was told the ONLY WAY it was going to work is if I purchased a composite AV cable.
It turns out that this 50 dollar cable has a CHIP in it that the ipod looks for before it's allowed to play a video.
Greed!
But here's proof of the greed: I plugged the 50.00 "official" cable into the ipod, let it verify and then unplugged and dropped it into my v55 docking station where it plays the video without any problems until I exit the video.
When I called the Apple corp office to voice my copmplaint they played dumb and claimed that there is "no chip" and that I am mistaken.
Say it with me, gang, "BS!"
There is a chip and the ipod does look to verify that it's there before it continues to work.
Greed, greed, greed.
I was considering buying a new mac computer and now I am totally turned off by Apple. If this is what they do to simple Mp3 customers I can imagine that regular computer customers would be made a bigger taget.
Shame on you, Apple!!

Re: Apple Greed and the iPod Video Composite Cable

Yeah, this bugged me a little bit. I mean, I don't mind that instead of using the headphone jack as a AV out, they switched to the dock connector. That's cool with me, but the fact that they decided that only they're cable would work...that bugged me.

Totally the kind of thing for which I'm not as fond of Apple as I once was...

Hackintosh C2Q 2.4Ghz - 4GB - GF9800GT - G5 case
PowerBook G4 1,33Ghz - dead ram slot Apple won't acknowledge

Re: Apple Greed and the iPod Video Composite Cable

i was ticked at this decision by apple until i found out that the $ 50 dollar cable for video out comes with an AC adapter so you can charge your ipod using a standard wall outlet . The price of that charger on apple's website is 30 dollars . Do some math and you'll realize that the cable is the same price it always was , but apple is making you buy a charger as well. All in all , very cost effective , apple, i'm not mad anymore !

2 months old and still kicking ...

The point is not that it costs 50 bucks... it's that you can't use your old cable or old accessories.
