Refreshing my Mac Pro
I recently became a proud owner of a Mac Pro. It was used, and around 6 months old. Means it came with 10.4 reinstall disc's. Well i wanted to wipe its hard drive clean and do a fresh install and set it up my way. Do i have to install 10.4 then install 10.5 to get all the apps??? Or is it possible to just put in my 10.5 cds and go from there??

Re: Refreshing my Mac Pro
the retail copy of leopard DOES NOT come with ilife, which I am guessing are the apps you are referring to.

Re: Refreshing my Mac Pro
Alhough with the restore discs, you can install Leo, then put the Tiger discs in while booted up, and in the window that shows up there will be a bundled SW installer, aside from the OS installer.
Thanks for clicking.

SW?
So just put the leopard disc in and overwrite right? Once done Put in tiger CD and reboot? and do SW?
Sorry for thayt. SW means software.
and no, don't boot from the Tiger disc. When Leopard is finished starting up insert the disc and a window will open up with two prominent icons, one saying "install Mac OS X" and the other "install bundled software only", alongside a bunch of other folders that you do't need to worry about. double click on the "install bundled software only" icon and the installer app will launch so then you can install iLife apps, X11 (not necessary except for a few applications floating around the internet), etc.
by the way this is all from memory so wording might be a little different.
Thanks for clicking.

Re: Refreshing my Mac Pro
I kind of figured it was software, just wanted to make sure. A couple more ?
I basically want to start over with this computer and set everything up in my name etc. The best way is to pop the Leopard DVD in and say i want to rewrite everything fresh install right??? Then once done put 10.4 DVD in and do the Software Bundle. Also i have a copy of vista, intel is new to me i been Powerpc forever so sorry for this question. And i have parallels, how do i boot camp vista?? then use parallels?? Is that pretty simple?

Re: Refreshing my Mac Pro
For Boot Camp:
Install Leopard, then open the Boot Camp utility (Utilities folder, natch). Boot Camp will open with a Read Me file of instructions. Print it out and read the whole thing before proceeding. Boot Camp works by partitioning the end of your volume for Windows, so the Leopard install does not get wiped out.
If you don't follow the instructions, though you will have trouble getting Windows installed. There are also some drivers that you will have to install off the Leopard disk after you boot into Windows for the first time. There is shareware available that will allow your OS X partition to see and write to your Vista partition, which can be very handy.
Install Parallels under OS X after you have the Vista partition completely set up.
Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.
Unless you become as little children, there's no way you will believe this crap.
