stupid computer...
I have an oldish iMac g4, and unfortunately, a bug has been plaguing it for some time. It has an annoying habit of freezing all the time. The mouse still moves, but nothing on the screen responds. I usually just press the power button (once, quickly) and then sit back, and wait. after about 3-5 minutes, it goes to sleep, I hit the spacebar, and everything works: until the next time. Help, oh Mac|lifers!!

Re: stupid computer...
Quick question: You do quit RAM-intensive apps when not using them, and you have at least 10-20GBs of free HD space?
Thanks for clicking.

Re: stupid computer...
What version of OS X do you have ? 10.2, .3 , .4 or 10.5 ?
Is it the latest version of those apps ? They are 10.2.8, 10.3.9, 10.4.11 or 10.5.2.
There are some software maintenance procedures which I can recommend, but we have to know what OS 10 version you have.

Re: stupid computer...
Run a memory test app. I suspect bad or failing RAM since it crossed 2 OS's.

Re: stupid computer...
Thanks guys, it fixed. I had an old app that had hid itself in startup items, and was hogging all my power.

There is no such thing as a stupid computer.
There is no such thing as a smart computer.

Amen.
Although, if I were inclined to argue, I'd say that they're stupid - but in the way a "dummy bomb" is stupid - it doesn't compensate for the inaccuracy of the user.

It does exactly what the user tells it to do ... not what the user thinks it should do ...
2.66Ghz QuadCore-Nehalem w/24"LED CD ---2.2Ghz BlackMB---15" 2.4Ghz MBP(work)
Dual 2.3Ghz G5 (4G Ram, 2x 250G HD)(10.5 server)--- 400Mhz G4 PM (10.4 Server)
1.5GHz Powerbook---1.6Ghz G5 iMac
