Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
What screws do you use to screw down the heat sink?

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
There is indentation in the case under the mobo where the cpu goes. Is there suppose to something that goes there in the indentation?

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
Got the mobo put in, hear the start up sound, then I hear a pop. Sounds like pop is coming from the speaker. Other than that, it (the mdd and its mobo) seems to be running fine, at least for now.

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
Congratulations!
I just got a very used Dual 1.25 G4 MDD to replace a VERY annoying generic 2.4 Ghz with Windows XP.
The G4 Mac is so much more responsive than the single processor XP machine.

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
The pop coming after the mac start up chime is still bugging me. Nothing looks strange on the mobo (but, that doesn't mean it not there). The pop sounds like it is coming from the speaker.

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
Perhaps the volume is set too high.
Try Startupsound preference pane to lower the volume at startup.

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
Did you ever have 9 on your MDD? I was trying to 9.2.1 on it. Looks like I need 9.2.2 instead.

Classic had some version of 9 but I never used it. Whatever version came with Jaguar (10.2).

Question for those who have MDD. How many internal optical and hard drive do you have attached and running?

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
Before it died, I had 4 hard drives and 2 optical drives in my dual 867 MDD. Optically I had the CD burner it came with and a Pioneer every-DVD burner.
I still don't know what killed it. But I bet it is cheaper to get another one than to fix the one I have.

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
I currently have 3 hard drives (80, 120, 250 GB), and the original SuperDrive, and a new SuperDrive that burns DVD+R DL. The original SuperDrive started to act "goofy," aka not reading all the time or not reading certain discs, so I plunked down for a spiffy new drive from OWC. Great Drive. Just need to get it set up with DVD Studio Pro.

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
On the 3rd hard drive that you install. Did you connect to the motherboard or get a card? Had a card in mine, but it seem like the cable that was pressing up against the cd tray was getting hot.

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
I connected to a PCI card, don't remember what kind. Bought it from OWC almost immediately after buying my computer. I don't remember having problems with cables. Shouldn't have a cable pressing against the CD drives. But I could be wrong.

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
I got a question about the RAM.
Can you take a RAM module from the older dual processor Mirror Door and use it in the newer but single processor one from '03?
The numbers all look the same.
Another question is, what is the big improvement that's made the newer SINGLE processor 1.25 ghz MD just as fast as an older DUAL processor 1.25 ghz one that has twice the RAM?

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
From Lowend Mac:
* Note that some vendors are substituting PC2700 RAM for PC2100 modules. Although PC2100 Macs can work with PC2700 RAM, you can't use both types of RAM in the same machine. All installed RAM must be the same type, whether PC2100 or PC2700.
From my understanding the later MDD took PC2700.
Which mac is the older dual 1.25GHz?
Both the single 1.25GHz and the dual 1.25GHz MDD are 167 MHz system bus speed. All the mdd can take up to 2 gig of ram.

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
I have a MDD G4 2003 back home and it was on my desk. It was a little loud, but not too bad. I think the the very first MDDs were the only really loud ones.

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
Got my hands on another MDD to tinker with. It suppose to have a bad dp 1.25 ghz chip in it. I have a single processor 1.25 cpu. The heat sink looks a tad different than I had before on other MDD. Is there different heat sinks between the single and dual processors? If so, will the one for the dual work the single?

Re: Mac G4 Mirror Double Door (MDD)
I would imagine the dualie would have a bigger heatsink. When I got a 1.467 GHz upgrade for my 733 MHz G4, the heatsink was nearly 3 times larger.
