POWER MAC G3. server speeds?
Does this really work pretty well? I'm using one as a video home network server.
Specs as goes:
• 350 MHz PPC G3
• 120 GB Internal HD
• DVD-R DL Drive
• USB 2.0 Card
• 500 GB MyBook WD External USB 2.0 Drive
• Original Apple 15" Studio Display (dark Purple variety w/ RCA in + 1/8" audio out)
• 512 MB RAM
• 10.4.11 Tiger
I've had problems with this setup on speeds. I've found a caching preference in VLC for the client side. Running it off of a 100 Mbit connection. Also have tried Quicktime; which usually just stops playing sound 1/2 way into the movie.
Possibles I think:
•Awkward Router
Anything else?
Note: The machine would never be able to decode the H.264 video I have on there; but alas should be able to to sustain a 500 Mbit/s on the high end (for sure) rate.
