Adobe Illustrator text boxes?
I'm having a issue with resizing Adobe Illustrator (CS2) text boxes. Normally, in most page layout program (Indesign, Quark Xpress, Pagemaker) you can easily resize the shape of the box (that contains the text) by clicking and dragging one of the handles at the edge.
Illustrator seems different. It won't allow you to resize using the selection/pointer tool. I can resize it using the Free Transform Tool (e) but it resizes the text along with the box. I don't want that. I want the text to stay the same size but re-flow along with the new box shape, the same way you can in -- Indesign, Quark Xpress, and Pagemaker. Is there some trick to doing this?

Re: Adobe Illustrator text boxes?
Yes.
Open a new doc and type something. While you're still using the type tool hold down the apple key and it will turn into a black pointer and this will give you handles. If you want to maintain the aspect ratio, hold down apple + shift- the handles will appear and let you size accordingly.
Or, select the black solid arrow and do the same thing.
You should be able to do this with any object as well as text as outlines.
Or "transform" for those really small adjustments. Hope this helps.

Re: Adobe Illustrator text boxes?
Figured out what was wrong
"show binding box" menu item had defaulted to "hide binding box"
"show binding box" needs to be selected before the resize handles show up.
Doooh
Least I figured it out
Thanks!

I was going to mention that.
Every once in a while my settings get "reset" and this happens to me and after a few minutes I remember exactly what you figured out.
Good on ya'.
