Move over? That article seems to imply the opposite.
I was going to say "$3000!?!?!" but I forgot that's also what the MBA costs with the 64GB SSD.

At least with the MBA you can opt for the disk drive at 1.2k cheaper. I thought the MBA would fade away but I haven't heard much negative press. It must be selling enough.

Huh? That laptop is 1.1 inches thick - the Macbook Pro is only 1 inch thick. The Macbook Air is from 0.16 to 0.75 inches thick. The lenovo x300 is nearly as light as the Macbook Air, but much thicker... doesn't seem like a worthy comparison to me.

my wife's cousin's husband has one. I used it for a couple of seconds then gave it back. I didn't really care for it. I prefer my more functional macbook. I will give the air credit for the trackpad though, that think was pretty cool.

I wouldn't use the MBA with the standard disk. I was toying with one at the Apple Store and the hard drive is painfully slow. Launching apps takes forever and the Finder is sluggish. It would be nice if it could be had with more RAM, then you could just leave most everything running.
My only complaint about the X300 would be the slow CPU.
It is an odd thing, but every one who disappears is said to be seen at San Francisco. It must be a delightful city, and possess all the attractions of the next world.

It makes fewer compromises than the Air does when it comes to features, although performance suffers for certain tasks.
The standard configuration includes a 1.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 64GB solid-state drive, integrated webcam, microphone, stereo speakers, and fingerprint reader. Our tested model also included a built-in DVD burner, 2GB of RAM, gigabit Ethernet, and 802.11n Wi-Fi. Further options are available for mobile broadband or wireless USB.
Okay so this thing makes fewer compromises than the air...
1.2 Ghz instead of 1.6 - 1.8 Ghz
64GB SSD instead of a 64 GB SSD or 80 GB Hard drive
Both have web cams and mics
The Lenvo has stereo instead of mono speakers
It has a finger print reader, a built in optical drive, ethernet that doesn't take up the USB port
Has the same 802.11n but has more options for 3G and stuff presumably
So in the end the features it doesn't skimp on are a finger print reader, an optical drive that isn't an external, ethernet that isn't from a dongle, and more options with respect to wireless. In return it is bigger and heavier and slower and apparently drains the battery pretty fast.
In other words, this is the same argument people made against the air when it was first released. Macbook Air Craft anyone?
The real kicker is:
If portability takes priority over performance, the ThinkPad X300 and the MacBook Air are both great choices. Choose the ThinkPad if you're running Windows, the MacBook if you use the Macintosh operating system. If performance or cost is important, take a look at our full notebook computer Ratings (available to subscribers) for other options.
Maybe they didn't get the memo that the Macbook air can also run windows.
In the end pick the one with the features you want. Don't expect every laptop to be made for you.

Not in my experience. I own the hard drive model and know someone with the SSD model. I'd hardly call the hard drive model slow. Pixelmator opens in a bounce and I can handle 300 dpi scans just fine. I frequently leave Omniweb and mail open when also running Pixelmator, Excel, Numbers, and Omnigraffle while doing lab work. The Macbook air is probably much faster than the x300 due to the gimped cpu.

My 500mhz Pismo handled 300dpi scans just fine. There's not much the MacBook Air can't do these days. If only it had a firewire port...

I saw one at the Palm Springs airport a few weeks ago. Thats the only one though.

I knew the review was going to be extremely biased with the line about it not making compromises. When a tech writer says compromises when they talk about the air they're really saying "I really want a Macbook Air but I'm part of the cult of integrated 3G wireless so I have to rag on and on about that." Yeah, I can see how no integrated 3G could be a pain for someone who needs to be connected to their work 24/7 but to imply that this compromise kills the air is just stupid.
