As with all things the odds are 50%. It will either happen or not.

I don't think the odds of "all things" are 50%.

Re: The tough question: do you think Obama will be assassinated?

Since Obama is only half black would that complicate the theory?  Perhaps split the difference and make him prone to suicide instead of assassination?  Or would they just cut off his right arm and right leg and maybe a lung?  If in the event he gets a 180 grain veto the first suspects I would pin would be the Clintons.

So what Huckabee is saying is that the NRA is full of trigger-happy conservatives who want to assassinate black liberals?

Re: The tough question: do you think Obama will be assassinated?

OK. I think it worthy of consideration what would be the fallout should anything befall each candidate. Or, some confidante or family member.

Or the current occupant, for all that. Considering his JAR is in the 20's, what would even the claim of a conspiracy do to the political landscape.

Just so if - the dreaded event should occur - we aren't 'surprised'.

Re: The tough question: do you think Obama will be assassinated?

I dunno...what I meant is that it is an issue worth discussing, but that indeed, I'd rather not be the instigator. For more than one reason.

I don't much enjoy having to assume that I'm under surveillance, but what's the alternative? That's one reason I don't hang FaceBook or MySpace.

The right to privacy and the meaning of the Fourth Amendment are in flux.

Re: The tough question: do you think Obama will be assassinated?

For instance, I'm not very comforted by this kind of reading:

http://emptywheel.firedoglake.com/2008/ … #more-2173

...    ... a number of former government employees and intelligence sources with independent knowledge of domestic surveillance operations claim the program that caused the flap between Comey and the White House was related to a database of Americans who might be considered potential threats in the event of a national emergency. Sources familiar with the program say that the government's data gathering has been overzealous and probably conducted in violation of federal law and the protection from unreasonable search and seizure guaranteed by the Fourth Amendment.

According to a senior government official who served with high-level security clearances in five administrations, "There exists a database of Americans, who, often for the slightest and most trivial reason, are considered unfriendly, and who, in a time of panic, might be incarcerated. The database can identify and locate perceived 'enemies of the state' almost instantaneously." He and other sources tell Radar that the database is sometimes referred to by the code name Main Core. One knowledgeable source claims that 8 million Americans are now listed in Main Core as potentially suspect. In the event of a national emergency, these people could be subject to everything from heightened surveillance and tracking to direct questioning and possibly even detention.

    [snip]

Another well-informed source—a former military operative regularly briefed by members of the intelligence community—says this particular program has roots going back at least to the 1980s and was set up with help from the Defense Intelligence Agency. He has been told that the program utilizes software that makes predictive judgments of targets' behavior and tracks their circle of associations with "social network analysis" and artificial intelligence modeling tools. [my emphasis]

Ketcham goes on to explain that the Bush Administration was cross-referencing Main Core with its warrantless wiretap program. I'm not entirely clear whether Ketcham is saying BushCo used Main Core to come up with potential targets of warrantless wiretapping, or whether they used the the warrantless wiretapping intercepts to add to Main Core--I think, but am not positive--it's the latter.
...

COINTELPRO returns.

Steal this post !

Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.  Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."  They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.

Hey, while we're talking about conspiracy theories going back to the '80s, how about a blast from the past:

Interestingly, even though Hillary was more than a minor player, no one has brought it back up. I guess the Mena story is officially dead now.

Re: The tough question: do you think Obama will be assassinated?

Well, I've been wanting to mention how all the cable analysts are saying that at least partly, HRC is staying in the race in case of some unnamed 'cataclysmic event' - as though referring to some other Rev. Wright, cocaine dealer or dead girl/live boy was going to turn up. The unmentioned part is the other way she can 'win'. That has been on my mind for  awhile. And this thread allows me to throw that into the bucket for all to consider.

Scary.  Hillary says she's staying in until June because Obama may be assassinated.
