iPod Video hard drive replacement??

My iPod drive has given up the ghost.  It makes a weird clicking noise, and fails to mount.  It has developed over a few weeks... initially it would just click, but play normally, then it started taking a while when navigating, sometimes it would basically freeze all together.  Now it gives me the sad iPod face.  I opened the case the other day to have a look.  It's a 30GB iPod video, is it possible to swap the hard drive out for a new one?  Does any one know of any online sources with illustrated step by step instructions?  How much will a 1.8" 30GB drive cost me? Would I be better to take it to a service centre, or even just go for a brand new unit (last resort, as I want to spend as little as possible).  Thanks a bunch!!

Re: iPod Video hard drive replacement??

This should help.
Yes, you can upgrade to a new larger hard drive. Prices vary. Service Centers and other websites charge $25.00-$50.00 to install it. You can save money if you do it yourself  and always leave it to the Professionals if your unsure.
Slide the tool between the seem. Do not pry it open! Handle with ease and take care.
click on http://www.ifixit.com/Products/iPod-Video/95
Pick hard drive of choice. Other websites were $50.00 more for the 100 GB
click on "See installation instructions"
click on "Tools You'll Need" if you don't have them.
click on "Begin Installation" and click "next" to continue on.
If anyone out there knows a better resource, please add. Thank you.
