Get ready for the iPod cops

http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/stor … f6fc96ce5e

OTTAWA - The federal government is secretly negotiating an agreement to revamp international copyright laws which could make the information on Canadian iPods, laptop computers or other personal electronic devices illegal and greatly increase the difficulty of travelling with such devices.

The deal could also impose strict regulations on Internet service providers, forcing those companies to hand over customer information without a court order.

Called the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), the new plan would see Canada join other countries, including the United States and members of the European Union, to form an international coalition against copyright infringement.

Yeah, because we have to keep our nation safe from iPod users with unlicensed songs on them.

Re: Get ready for the iPod cops

Hey - some of them do video and have unlicensed porn on them.
Porn is a multi billion dollar industry - and it provides a lot of jobs to trailer trash with no college education, so you don't want to see that industry fall.

Re: Get ready for the iPod cops

In Canada, border guards already perform random searches of laptops at airports to check for child pornography. ACTA would expand the role of those guards.

See, we've been warning about the slippery slope those over-enthusiastic child porn laws would create.

Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.

Unless you become as little children, there's no way you will believe this crap.

And so you accept this new Canadian policy as sound?

there are a lot of collage grads in the porn industry. just the other day I saw a university professor doing it with one of her students because he wanted a high grade on an exam. he even stayed after class the next day for some extra credit.

it was a pretty good movie, I can send you a link if you like. wink

I live in a trailer, boy. Does that make me trash?

More to the point: just because you've chosen to be celibate up to this point (as you've stated numerous times here), what makes you think you're better than people who have sex on film for a living just because of that fact? Likewise, what makes you think that having a college education makes you any better than anybody else who doesn't have one?

Your attitude makes me smurfing sick here. Apparently you don't like:

     · People who have sex with other people
     · People who live in trailers
     · People who never went to college

Who the smurf do you like, then? The moral of the story is just that you have a lot to learn about the world. Just who in the hell do you have for friends with criteria like that? College graduates who don't have sex only? roll

I strongly recommend that you grow the smurf up as soon as possible, rather than dragging it out as long as you can, son.

Elitist!! http://homepage.mac.com/oatmeal/MAF/maxes/shakefist.gif

FYI summer is the busiest season for porn because of all the college girls who spend the summer doing vids to pay for their education.

Re: Get ready for the iPod cops

Well - technically no.
It's a manufactured home - it doesn't have any axles or wheels, and has to be taken apart and put on a two flat bed trucks to be moved.

Actually - mine might require four flatbeds as it is fairly long (3 bedroom 2 bathroom)

Supposedly, here is the leaked document.  Lots of ex factio authority handed out and talk of the rights of the copy right holders.  Not much for the citizens.

Re: Get ready for the iPod cops

1. Whatever happened to the idea of "innocent until proven guilty"?

2. How can they possibly hope to tell whether a normal (non-DRM-encrufted) MP3 or AAC file is infringing or not?  It could have come from the iPod owner's own CD collection (completely non-infringing "paradigmic Fair Use" in the U.S.), from copying among friends (possibly non-infringing, as per some of Senator Hatch's comments), or from large-scale P2P file trading among anonymous strangers (a case where the file is infringing).

3. Is this going to turn into "If we find any non-DRMed file on your iPod, we seize and destroy your iPod"?  If so, that will be a gross injustice to large numbers of law-abiding iPod users whose non-infringing, non-DRMed files come from space-shifting CDs or legally obtaining uncrippled files from eMusic, iTunes Plus, etc.
