Re: MacBook Pro and wow

Oh yeah it would. nVidia 8600 is plenty for WoW in it's current form.

Re: MacBook Pro and wow

there is currently an issue with WoW and the 8600. i have a 2.2ghz MBP with the 128meg 8600 and currently get frame rates in the 5-15 range in big cities. 20-30 in small groups or unpopulated areas. it's playable, but not enjoyable. they're "working on it"

Re: MacBook Pro and wow

Really thats not unusual for a lot of ppl. Big cities can be rough on anyone during peak times, specially Outland. You do only have 128MB VRAM too. Unpopulated are usually much higher so ya i'd say that is an issue Blizz broke in a patch.

I know it was the Sunwell patch or the one before it which caused graphic problems on my PC whenever AOE attacks would land. Specially when mages ice ppl in place. The moment the attack graphic spawns my FPS can go from smooth to under 5 for a brief moment before back up again. Not alone on it either but so far patches have come and gone and Blizz has never fixed it.

Re: MacBook Pro and wow

I've been playing WOW since shortly after getting my 2008 model 17" MacBook Pro (so it will be at least similar to the one you will be getting). I've had no problems from my MBP--problems from TimeWarner apparently disliking the traffic generated, but that is a different problem.

BTW: get your Macs from Apple with the minimum RAM configuration and upgrade it yourself. Apple still charges US$200 to up the RAM from 2 GBs to 4 GBs, but you can get 4 GBs from third parties for under $100 like Other World Computing. OWC even offers a $20 rebate for your original 2 GBs. RAM replacement is easy to do and you can find the OWC online video showing the steps or look up the appropriate photo guide at iFixIt.

Re: MacBook Pro and wow

I take back the part about TimeWarner. Apparently my problems are due to a crowding of WiFi in my area (so this isn't due to the MBP either).
