MobileMe Thoughts

Sweet!  I'm pretty happy about this upgrade!  20g Storage (opposed to 10gb), some new Calendar options, and Push email.  I think current .Mac users are all happy.  Makes that money more worth it! (And I got mine for $50 off ebay)

I'm psyched to be sure, but when is it going to be available?

i'm REALLY stoked about the push EVERYTHING. this will allow me to completely wean off of yahoo and gmail.

the ooooonnnnnne little thing that's still missing is the ability to post to one's iWeb created blog. fix that, and things will be perfect. i still can't figure out why Apple hasn't figured this out yet.

The family bundle costs less now too! It actually makes sense.

Except I have a big question about the family bundle that is not answered anywhere on Apple's site. I think it is a huge oversight for them not to mention it too. If I purchase 2 - 5 iPhones and connect them on an AT&T family plan will the MobileMe family plan allow each of those other users to have the MobileMe push sync to their iPhones or would we each need to have a personal MobileMe account instead?

I don't think so...I mean, yes, they changed .Mac's name and all, and it's supposed to serve the same purpose as .Mac, but the whole interface got a complete overhaul.

Yes, the interface (the lipstick) got an overhaul and a new name. The basic services (the pig) are essentially the same as .Mac.

The new syncing is big for me.

That's BS. The Push synchronization between Mac, PC, and iPhone is a HUGE addition and something that no one else is doing in the consumer arena. What exactly do you think it should have that it doesn't?

You really need to work on your self esteem dude.

A lower price.

If that is all that you want then it doesn't correspond with your comment at all.

Re: MobileMe Thoughts

They did lower the price of the family bundle though, just not the individual account.

Anyway, the push sync stuff will still work on the iPhone if you don't have mobileme. You'll just have to have access to a service that supports that kind of thing (such as an exchange server).

True but I'm pretty sure the average consumer doesn't have their own personal exchange server.

Re: MobileMe Thoughts

Thats why apple made moblieme. tongue Also, getting push email from yahoo isn't free either. The fact is they did modify the pricing scheme for the service, they just didn't lower the entry price. (If you're smart you can get it for $70 a year as opposed to $100.)

Actually, you can get push IMAP from AOL for free and it works really well. I currently have a few AOL email addresses set up to just take forwarded mail from other accounts so that I can get the email on my Treo. Then I change the reply to in order to match the original account.

The email is not the part I'm thrilled about with MobileMe. It is the calendar and contact portion. I LOVE the idea of having those synced all the time because I use the heck out of them now but I have to manually sync my Treo and I don't always remember.

I like the syncing stuff but I really like the gallery feature. I don't really like all those "free" ones because they're kind of scams (like most social networking sites).

$30 discounts

I love that feature too but it was already available via .mac and iPhoto '08. I've used it extensively and it is great. I think the new features of the gallery are nice additions as well, especially adding a photo from your iPhone directly to a gallery. That is a really nice feature.

Yeah, old feature but they refined it somewhat. You couldn't edit the gallery online before.

Not like you can now. Before you were limited to uploading/downloading photos. You couldn't create a new gallery online, rotate photos, and rename them.

Re: MobileMe Thoughts

First was Homepage where you did everything on-line, then there was iWeb where you worked on the mac and uploaded to the .mac account now we are back to on-line applications.  Make up your mind!
I'd love to use the calendar but I've never been able to wrestle it to display stuff the way I'd like.  I'm not certain how much different the e-mail is from the current .mac web-mail program.

Umm, no. Now you are able to do it online, on the computer (Mac or PC), or on the phone and they all stay synchronized.
