using an external monitor macbook
Just a quick check.
Am planning to get an external monitor LG L226 WTQ-SF 22inch.
Presuming I will be able to use it with my macbook . will I be able to use it running windows XP pro?
Will it be a second monitor or a duplicate?
Thanks
Danny

Yes, yes, both.
Look in Displays to configure your second monitor for mirroring/extending your desktop.

Re: using an external monitor macbook
ok, so I finally got an external monitor. problems is, my main monitor is not working.
The external monitor works great on the osx side however when I try to log into windows, I do see the ugly logo of windows on my external monitor however as soon as windows logged in the monitor says no single and I'm staring on a dark screen without any clue what to do.
Any suggestions how I can make the external monitor my main monitor on windows without seeing anything. (ie some key commands or maybe I can fix it while on osx)
thanks

Boot up into Windows without the external monitor configured. Once you've logged in successfully, get to the Displays control panel and then plug in your external monitor.
Edit- Oh right, don't forget to install the drivers/colour profiles. You can usually get these from Windows Update actually...

This is the problem. Since originally posting this topic my laptop monitor crashed and I finally got it back from the shop after discovering it will be almost as expensive to fix it as buying a new one.
I am planning to buy a new computer (probably an imac) by the end of July but was hoping to be able to use my laptop in the mean while.
So I can't log into windows using my laptop monitor.
Do I have any options? Maybe if I use some kind of app. that allow running both osx and log into windows from within osx I might be able to access windows on my external and then download any needed drivers?
Thanks
Danny

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Whoops!
You know, that isn't such a bad idea actually. You can get a free 30 day trial of VMWare fusion, and let it boot Windows off the Boot Camp partition. You might be able to set up mirroring on your external monitor... when I get home today, I'll see if I can hook up my external display to my Mac and see if VMWare can use the external monitor.

Thanks for that.
I think I'm going to buy a new LCD and attempt to fix it my self. However since I'm going to a vacation next week I doubt the new LCD will come in time and really hope to be able to use my laptop with an external monitor before and during my vacation.
thanks again.
