Mario Kart Wii - First impressions
Hi all,
So who's got it and how do they like it. I'm thinking about picking it up this weekend, but I need some feedback to push me over the edge to parting with my $$$ for another game I'll never have time to play.

my girlfriend got it today ... but she hasn't played it yet ... weird I know.
All I know is that GTA IV is going to be all over my 40" LCD HDTV tomorrow, so she better play MK tonight

Re: Mario Kart Wii - First impressions
I'm going to pick it up later this week when I have time, but I've heard good things. I guess it creates a channel on the wii dashboard that you can use to check who's online without having to insert the game, which is nice.
It's mario kart...it has to be fun... :¬)

The wheel takes some getting used to. You basically have to completely relearn mario kart. I think it is more fun using the wheel though.

Re: Mario Kart Wii - First impressions
Not as much convo around this game on here as I thought there would be.
First Impression: I am a racing god. The AI was no match for the regular Toad racer on the 50cc Mushroom Cup and Flower Cup circuits. Eight races...6 1st place finishes (screw you blue shell!) all with no practice whatsoEVA. This wheel rocks!
Second Impression: I am racing mediocrity. I have dipped below my 5000 starting points in online play. Some of these tracks and freaking hard for a 1st run and the 100cc was hella fast. Unless I get a Bullet Bill during the last lap, I come in around the middle. The wheel doesn't seem to work as well when doing the faster circuits...or I am too slow reacting. Sometimes I drift the wrong way....
Final Impression: The game is really, really fun. Tonight I'll try the classic controller and see if I can improve.

GTA IV stole ALL the hype.

Re: Mario Kart Wii - First impressions
I've played every Mario Kart since day one on the SNES, and this is genuinely the most fun I've ever had playing Mario Kart. The old tracks from previous Mario Kart games are perfectly translated (and some are actually improved), and the new tracks are absolutely inspired. Definitely the best track design the Mario Kart series has ever seen; there are a couple pages pulled from the excellent track design of Excite Truck and F-Zero GX, with a few additional twists dropped in for good measure.
The Wheel takes some time to get used to, but I prefer it to other controllers at this point, it's definitely more fun, with tricks and wheelies on bikes being particularly fun. I don't find my ability to rip around the course, pull of quick turns, powerslides, and other maneuvers to be impacted whatsoever. Thus far, I have completely dominated my way through 100cc with Waluigi, with a 3rd place finish in a single race on the Star Cup being the worst placing I've gotten. Your mileage may vary, but I find the Wheel to be an excellent way to play.
I've got things set up to go online, but haven't really done anything with it yet. Looking forward to, though.
Overall, I think it's best entry in the series.

Re: Mario Kart Wii - First impressions
I've played through the 50 and 100cc circuit and am now on to the 150. I've only played with the wheel and can't imagine it being much fun with the nunchuck.
over all I would say it's a good game, but it's one that you need to play with friends/family to fully enjoy.

My # is 1461-6877-6584.
This is awesome. Smash brothers should be this easy to get online. I've had smurf for luck playing an online match unless it's with a friend...MK however rawks. Not to mention the channel it installs on the dash. Nice.

I played this the other day, and agree that it was incredibly fun with the wheel. It was my friend's wii, though, so no number. And yes, the old tracks were faithfully updated.

Re: Mario Kart Wii - First impressions
I found the wheel very easy to get used to and I'm guessing it's because I am more used to using an actual steering wheel in a car than I am to a controller. The folks who I have played against so far are all "casual gamers" if you will (as am I) who have driven cars for years but have limited experience with a control stick. All of them have also picked up quickly.
I'm willing to bet it just has to do with what you're used to. People like myself who drive a car every day but sometimes go weeks without playing a video game would be more apt to pick up on the wheel.
