A non-apple laptop that plays nice with my iMac
Sigh...well, it's happened...I finally realized I needed a laptop. This is for work only, mostly office documents.
So, my question is - is there a good non-apple laptop between $700-$1000 that will play nice with my iMac G5??
In theory, I should be able to create documents on either and be able to edit and open them on both, but I'm squeamish about getting a non-Mac laptop. I just excommunicated MicroSwindle from my iMac. I don't want to go back.
Any recommendations or offers of moral support are much appreciated.
I've heard good things about the Acer Aspire and HP Pavillion.
I'm considering this one:

If you'd rather not go with Windows Lenovo and HP both offer some laptops with Linux factory installed and supported. Obviously you won't get MS Office but if you can verify OpenOffice provides enough compatibility then this may do what you want.

Re: A non-apple laptop that plays nice with my iMac
I found out Costco offers a nice Acer with a LOT more RAM for just a little more than MicroCenter, so I will probably go there. And there's two years of free tech support.
I took a look at Apple's clearance center in the online store - still rather pricey for what I have budgeted for this purchase. So unless Jobs declares instant rebates or something, alas, I will have to refrain.
Thanks for the headups on the Linux option, if I do see anything with that, I will consider it. If I end up with Vista, at least there is support for that on these forums too. Although I will probably need more emotional than tech support.

Re: A non-apple laptop that plays nice with my iMac
I saw some great deals at Newegg - they're offering to throw more RAM in as part of the bundle. And it's a MacBook. I would be much more relaxed knowing that I'm working on an Apple laptop.
I'm not 100% yet, but I'll probably decide this week.
Actually, I should get more RAM for my iMac while I'm at it. Hooray, I can be Windows free still! Can you tell I have an irrational problem with Windows?

If you get a macbook, be sure you never, ever leave it asleep + unplugged long enough for the battery to run down.
I don't know if that applies to the Pro as well.
