WiFi Calling on the iPhone!

Downloaded this app for my phone called, "Fring". Has anyone heard of this? It's a great little app in that you can chat with many popular platforms, i.e. (Yahoo, AOL, iChat, Skype, etc.) and the Skype is the best thing about Fring. You can call your contacts using a wifi connection without using minutes on your phone!

It's an awesome app...check it out!

I deleted the link. If people want to find it that should be easy enough and then maybe their referrer records won't make it won't look like spamming these forums got them clicks

Why would you think my lat post was spam?
Are you really going to be "that guy"?
I was just posting it because I thought it was cool to call my contacts on wifi.

Re: WiFi Calling on the iPhone!
Maybe because 99% of people who create an account on the same day they post a link to a product are spammers?
and then they never post again.
but your second post does prove your case pretty well.

Re: WiFi Calling on the iPhone!
Skype on WiFi violates the contract? I didn't know that - I had an 1st Gen iPhone that I just sold (so I could upgrade to 3G when time comes) but I never activated it through AT&T.
Some of the guys on another mac forum I visit have been talking about Skype. They think that the 3G is going to use a standard smartphone contract, which I guess, gives you the option of just having a Data Plan with no voice. That's all I really wanted the iPhone for, I don't really need a voice plan.
They're hoping to be able to run Skype on the 3G network, that would be sweet if Fring could do that.

But what would be the point? Because of the new pricing scheme for the iPhone 3G you will be contractually obligated to pay that AT&T bill. You don't think that Apple is cutting the price for the iPhone 3G for nothing, do you?

Re: WiFi Calling on the iPhone!
Yeah, I know. If it worked it would be too good to be true anyway. The main reason I never activated my 1st Gen was because I couldn't justify the monthly plan, I just don't make that many calls. I only really wanted it for the data plan. For me, that is the killer app, everything else is just gravy.
I may wait to find out what the full, non-subsidized price is going to be. It may just be worth it (for me) to buy it, cancel after the first month, and pay the full price to keep it. Then I might be able to set it up with a smartphone data plan for $40, although, for data only that's still kind of pricey.

Yes, I know, that's why I said I might just buy it, cancel the contract a month later, and pay for it outright. After that I bet you could set it up just like a regular smartphone, with data only if you want.

Re: WiFi Calling on the iPhone!
Some estimates say that AT&T will pay Apple as much as $525 for each iPhone 3G that sells. Adding some margin for AT&T, I would guess that a non-contracted iPhone 3G will be about $750 or more, and that is before the usual fee of $150 or more that the US telcos have for breaking a contract.

Well, if that's the case, then I'm going to be very sorry I sold my 1st Gen

Re: WiFi Calling on the iPhone!
AT&T has proposed $599 and $699 as possible the prices for the iPhone 3G without contracts sometime "in the future."
