Im regrettin my update to CS3
So...every time I save a .Tif file in Photoshop it makes it a .tif right?
Well evidently not. Because at least half of them won't reopen or be read anymore.
I get the error:
"Could Not Complete the Request Because The File is Not a Tif File".
Um, yea it is, the mac even says it is.
So, it's cost me HOURS of work that I have to in turn rebuild from scratch. It's hit or miss, and sometimes it works fine but then if I make a change to the file, I lose it all the next time I need it.
Why is it doing this and how to I fix it?

Re: Im regrettin my update to CS3
Have you tried saving as an eps instead just to get through this job? However, I'm thinking that there is something serious wrong with the CS3 install and maybe even with the hard drive itself (anything else strange happening?).
Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.
Unless you become as little children, there's no way you will believe this crap.

It just started happening last week, suddenly out of nowhere.

Re: Im regrettin my update to CS3
I run yasu and clear my caches every time Photoshop slows down/acts weird.
User/library/preferences/com.adobe.photoshop.plist
If that didn't fix it for me I'd reinstall (don't forget to deactivate)

Re: Im regrettin my update to CS3
Are you saving them to the internal drive? Can we rule a bad hard drive as the culprit?
Honestly, I've given up on TIFs. The cool kids just stay PSD all the way.

Re: Im regrettin my update to CS3
Evidently Leopard had a Photoshop (and Illustrator) corruption issue when you save to a server. The OS X 10.5.4 update has supposedly fixed this.

Try opening the file with Graphic Converter and then copy and paste back to PS.

Ah, that's why I'm scratching my head.
I'm also using CS3, but have no clue what's going on here.
I stuck with 10.4.11. This is reason no.547 why I'm glad I did.

Nothing wrong with Tiger. It's solid.

Re: Im regrettin my update to CS3
I've been on CS3 at work since it came out, I use .tifs all the time, and I've never had that error. I'm running a dualie 2GH G5 with 10.4.11. You may need to pick up a copy of Tech Tool Pro and check out your system. I would guess you're having some hard drive issues, Tech Tool Pro should make it right as rain.
My IT guy found some bad sectors on my HD among other things, and TTP fixed everything up, and my system is more responsive now.
"You are coming to a sad realization, cancel or allow?"
...sigh.. "Allow."

The OP never stated what OS they use. If it's Tiger, I'm stumped. If it's Leopard, it could be the culprit.

Re: Im regrettin my update to CS3
Leopard. 10.5.3 currently. At home I am on Tiger, and no problems.
And Pottymouth:
I can't use PSDs unless I save a .Tif after it's all made. Most of our printers want .TIF layered files. Which is lame but whatever.

Are you saving to a server? If so upgrade to 10.5.4 now.

Re: Im regrettin my update to CS3
I can vouch for not wanting PSD files. We use Rampage as our RIP at work and it just spits them back. I WISH we could use PSDs...then I wouldn't need to resave them as TIFFs and update them.

Re: Im regrettin my update to CS3
Eh? No PSDs? Why would a printer even care? Are you submitting application files instead of PDFs?

Most people don't know how to make a press-ready PDF to save their life.

I do. But then I'm not most people.

We're in the process of "training" clients to get on board with PDFs tailored to our workflow. God help me, time to buy stock in beer & liquor.

That's why they call you Mr. Happypants. Isn't that why you get paid the big bucks?

I didn't realize it was that difficult.
Then again, every time I send a press-ready PDF to Kinko's and they make me re-do it because they can't figure out how to use it, I die a little inside.

Have you ever WORKED at a print shop?
The customers are smurfing idiots 75% of the time.
I don't blame anyone for requesting the native files they were created in. You can't trust the designers to do what you need to give them what they WANT when you get a PDF.
