Big News in the World of Electric Cars!
Tesla announces a $60k, all-electric, five passenger sports sedan
The company has just introduced a fully-electric, five passenger sports sedan dubbed the Model S, which will be selling for $60,000, and will manage 225 miles on a full charge.
Tesla's Elon Musk promises sub-$30k all-electric car in less than four years
Elon Musk began discussing its development of electric car tech to get the price of future cars to (and below) $30,000.
I'm saving up right now.

It will be great when they sell for 20gs or less. Until then, not too many people will be able to afford them.

Give oil prices a few more months, we'll see what's viable

The technology will come down in price. Remember when we plunked down $10,000 for a Mac IIfx?
So will oil prices. Housing did, tech stocks did, precious metals did, oil too will have its turn to fall. Until then, let's develop some more electric cars and work on kits to convert the existing automobiles to electric or hybrid models (since not everyone can afford to go out and buy a new car).

I don't think they will go down substantially. I read somewhere (I think it was a MSN) that once prices reach a threshold of say 3 or 4 a gallon, the trend is they stay at around that mark.

Oil prices aren't going down in any significant way. The party's over.
I've trying to follow the news about the Tesla sedan and it's frustrating that it's always so thin. I heard about that 3 months ago. Even their website only seems to have this press release.
No photos or concepts.

Do you really even need a car for a 2 mile commute?
I mean I don't know where you live, so maybe public transportation is not an option, but two miles is a very short trip.

That wouldn't really surprise me. Gas was around $1.05 or so a gallon for a long time and given inflation since then a price around $3.75 or so would probably be about right (given a rough estimate). Plus we've been right about $4 per gallon for a month or so now and while it could go up for a while I see it coming back down in the winter and then staying fairly consistent for some time.
I'm not overly concerned since I only use a few gallons every week and when I graduate from college (which is two miles away from me, giving me a very short commute) I will probably look for jobs in areas where I can walk, ride a bike, or get a convenient bus. Alternately I will buy a hybrid...which should be cheaper and more readily available by then.

Sedan is the operative word here. That is the 2 door coupe 2 seater that is already in production. The sedan will seat five supposedly.

Well heck, you could WALK that trip every day. A bike will get you there six times faster though.
