Wutchooo talkin' 'bout?

I would much rather have Gary Coleman than more Patrick Stewart and Hank Azaria voice overs!

You've set fire to GC in one Postal already. Wouldn't you rather get a crack at the other two this time... or for that matter, reunited Pam & Tommy? wink

I forget which season he was a guest-star.

Re: Game movie craptacularity continues, intensifies

I've seen the episode.  Gary Coleman as an actual "actor" is of no interest.  It's as a media vs. real world phenomena that he's interesting.  I do find his good humor and humility about it all fairly refreshing though.

There's a news glut today... make it stop! :shudder:

Gallery: Tainted Tie-Ins — Worst Movie Games Ever
By Chris Kohler
07.02.08
Ever since they first fooled around in the Atari era, movies and videogames have had a troubled relationship.

Movies based on games -- like Super Mario Bros. and Postal-- deliver pure cinematic dreck, yet somehow games based on movies up the crap ante. Slapped together on tight development schedules by B-list teams, movie tie-in games rarely crawl out of the hole of mediocrity. Quite frankly, they dream of being mediocre.

Adding insult to injury, they sell enormously well. The NPD Group reported in June that the PlayStation 2 Iron Man game was May's seventh best-selling U.S. game.

Here's our list of the 10 worst movie-to-game translations in history, with input from a Wired.com reader poll. If it seems heavy on retro games, just remember that things used to be a lot worse.

Catwoman game, anyone?

Re: Game movie craptacularity continues, intensifies

Considering kid movies, and anything attached, and the commercials are aimed at getting kids to nag parents it doesn't surprise me they sell well, but total units moved would make more sense to compare than if they simply take up a chunk of change the month the movie is out.

Though I saw Xplay's review of Hellboy (game).  Their only "compliment" was that it "did not spoil any parts of the upcoming movie's plot"

And that's being generous.

JUst saw the Max Payne trailer, and yeah, not looking good, but considering the director and that Mark Wahlberg  is not at all in any way who I'd choose to be Max Payne, really have bad ingredients to start with, maybe we should give em a chance?  Pretty sad if you can't make a film better than a 3-6 hour Graphic Novel game.  Would have been nice if it could have been done by the "Frank MIller to Fllm" crew, not that it needs that heavy of a production.  We'll see shrug

Either way, it might mean a metric buttload of green screen work. Both Zack Snyder and Robert Rodriguez have established themselves as sort of pulp-action directors (some more concrete than others). I'm not too sure which I'd rather have doing the movie. While 300 was good, that's only because he rigidly followed the source. The sideplot was mediocre. I would expect a Rodriguez helmed Max Payne movie to be more enjoyable. Either one would be fine, though.

Aye the side plot was mediocre, but it didn't "kill" the movie, it didn't (at least for me) hinder the flow either as some scenes in Casino Royale did where I was sitting watching and feeling like I should be checking my watch to make sure time did not in fact stop.  And the side plot perhaps helped 300 be more open to a wider audience, which is something almost every film is forced to do if the director doesn't decide to himself.

Either way, Hellboy 2 and Dark Knight I will be catching in theateres (Dark Knight in IMAX if they don't get sold out).  Max Payne I'll wait to rent

How are you about this one, then, Macho Man? wink

Running With Scissors has announced Randy Jones, of the original '70's musical group sensation The Village People, as the first in a series of celebrities who will be appearing in the third major installment of its long-running POSTAL series, POSTAL III. Later, RWS will be announcing other celebrity signings for key character roles in POSTAL III.

American Music Award winner and multi-platinum recording artist Randy Jones has been a pop cultural icon since the 70s, when his band The Village People racked up such musical mega-hits as “Macho Man”, “YMCA” and “In the Navy”. Randy is currently celebrating his 30th year in show business with a new CD and international concert tour "TICKET TO THE WORLD".

Appearing for the first time in a video game, the macho man Randy Jones will be cast as the leader of a gay biker gang. As Running With Scissors ringleader Vince Desi put it: “What more can I say than Y M C A. Who needs John Travolta when we’ve got the original Macho Man, Randy Jones!”

Postal III is scheduled for release in 2009 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC/Mac. Follow the links below to learn more.

Re: Game movie craptacularity continues, intensifies

Am I so wrong?  Hancock ended with what could almost be called a "fanservice" if it were an anime webcomic.  Okay so they went with the happy ending, did they really need the "one month later"  Granted it's become common, and yes a good movie you do walk out WANTING that one month after piece, but personally i prefer it left out, if you can't divine in your own head the "happily ever after" part on your own, go back to disney heh.

(not to sound too harsh, just sayin...)
And word is the re-cut kingdom of heaven is amazing while what was in theatres was a disaster, but this comes from my friend who is a movie buff, I wouldn't know as I haven't seen either.

Now Wall-E of course was a kids movie, so we couldn't leave him (insert spoiler), those who have seen know what I'm talking about.  But that didn't change the movie as much as the second half of Hancock did.

I'll try and think of more examples, I mainly remember movies I enjoyed thoroughly and leave the rest for IMDB and the like to reference.  Granted most films won't really change whole plots, but in editing and after screenings sometimes things will change.

Re: Game movie craptacularity continues, intensifies

Oh noes.

id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead would like to do another Doom movie, perhaps one based on the still in production, and yet-to-be-named, new Doom game.

"Personally I'd like to do another Doom movie, I thought working with it was a blast," he said. "There are some lessons we learned. The best way to do things better is to get the experience."

Hollenshead said that Universal still has the rights for the Doom movie and sequels, so the ball is really in their court on whether another is made.

Doom wasn't that bad. Was a bit more Resident Evil in story and it needed more FPS moments. In all the entire movie had just a few seconds of FPS moments near the end. Kind of a let down.

Hopefully the opposite.

Halo: The Movie Update
Whoa. El Mayimbe, who runs Latino Review, sent word that the spec script based on Fall of Reach, written by Stuart Beattie (we mentioned it back in April) is generating interest - enough interest that concept art has been created by Kasra Farahani, and the first of five weekly releases of this artwork is up on Latino Review right now. Will it go anywhere? Stay tuned! (Louis Wu 23:14:01 UTC)
