Seven Years Of Owning A Pit Bull
happy birthday Sadie.
It's been an educational and rocky ride at times.
I’m not ready to make nice-I’m not ready to back down-I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round-It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could-‘Cause I’m mad as hell-Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

Why would you own such a dangerous breed?

ere is the abbreviated version:
& years ago my wife's then 19yo son decided her wanted a dog and bought Sadie off the back of a pickup truck. 6 months latter he decided to move out of state and was going to abandon Sadie to the local animal shelter where she would have faced an almost certain death.
At that time I knew nothing about Pits besides all the bad things I had read. Regardless I agreed to take her in. She seemed a nice enough dog and while I was not enthusiastic about getting a Pit Bull I figured I would find her a new home eventually.
But something funny happened, I fell in love with her. Im 50 years old and have had many dogs before. From Bernese Mountain dogs to Great Danes to Vislas to Blue tick hounds. I love dogs and I have found in my Pit Bull Sadie the best dog I have ever had the honor of knowing.
She is so smart and she just loves me and my wife so much it's kinda funny. Something you will never see in the news about Pits is how amazingly loving they are towards their families. Even at the age of 7 she runs around the house like a puppy and she gets along just fine with our rescued cat.
Sadie is NOT "dangerous". I know from experience that she will not bite strangers. An experiment the utility guys in my neighborhood unwittingly took part in.
She backed them into a corner growling but did not touch them. That's very good guard dog behavior.
So I have gone from being ignorant and fearful about Pits to being a huge Pit Bull fan.
Pit Bulls are really awesome dogs, smart, loyal, loving, sweet, clownish.
I love Sadie with an unreserved passion and now that I have had this one Pit I can't imagine settling for another breed in the future. There is just one hell of a lot of "dog" packed into a Pit Bull.
Pit Bulls rock.

Re: Seven Years Of Owning A Pit Bull
I haven't met a real Pit Bull before. I have seen them but never close enough to pet them. Most have seemed calm and never "dangerous". My uncle's minature pinscher is another story.... she is very protective for her size. Sometimes I wonder if she could do a full size dog's protection job...
and she is one of my favorite dog colors.

Cheers on having you dog seven years!
Great to hear that your Pit Bull is still lively and going strong. Hopefully you'll have more wonderful memories over the years with your Pit Bull.

Re: Seven Years Of Owning A Pit Bull
Idiot humans who inbreed the dogs are responsible for the undesirable aggressiveness found in some of them. Idiot humans who get them and don't train or treat them correctly are responsible for most of the other problems.
Like the idiot we passed a few weeks ago while walking our australian shepard. He called out, unbidden, "My dog would eat your dog."
Luckily for him I ignored him and wasn't carrying, or I might have simply smiled, and told him, "My gun would blow his smurf away, and yours too!"
"There were places in the world commemorating those times when wizards hadn't been quite as clever [as to refrain from doing magic when you knew how easy it was], and on many of them the grass would never grow again." Terry Prachett
There are 3 types of people, those who can count and those who can't.

I remember when you got that dog - and yes, she is a beauty.
Congrats!
