My country is SO going to hell ...

Military takes part in Toronto's gay pride parade

"It's a huge thing for me personally," said Warrant Officer John McDougall, a parade participant who has been an openly gay member of the military for 13 years. "To be able to be in public and be recognized not just for being a soldier, but for being a soldier who happens to be gay is amazing."

Oh the shame, the shame!!

I'll be impressed when they have an S&M Pride Parade.

Pfffffttt, soldiers in the Gay Pride parade, whatever. I'm sure there are some Southpaws and maybe a few red-heads in our military too. Whatever.

Now if the Canadian Armed Forces have any sort of presence at the Collingwood Elvis Festival that will be a bad sign, unless they are there to round up all participants and rendite them extraordinarily to Abu Ghraib. That would be acceptable.

So in the Canadian military, instead of DADT, it's WHWQ.

You act like this is some sort of computer geek club or something.

The problem I have with discussing freedom is that people have been conditioned to expect "of me to tell you what to do" to follow it... inevitably they notice I don't ever get to that part, and they feel like I am trying to trick them.

In case it matters, yes I do. In fact I own two. But I long ago grew fatigued with the rest of the forum.

You'd think one would get sick of this part first.

Re: My country is SO going to hell ...

Great, we just all got classified as sick, potentially boring people.

The sick part or the boring part?

Just read Obama saying that he plans to get rid of DADT and allow gays to openly serve in the military.

Re: My country is SO going to hell ...

Wait!!!! NO!!!! That will mean open and unbridled sex in the barracks and in the field!

Nooooooooo.

Let's see now, I do recall 10 individuals in my military career who I know were discharged or disciplined for sex with another member of the military in such circumstances.

Unfortunately they were all heterosexual encounters.

Oh, and in the same interview he implied that he might keep Secretary Gates around.

Re: My country is SO going to hell ...

Q: It's the first wartime transition in 40 years. The basic concern within the Pentagon is that things will be lost or continuity will be lost. Do you expect to keep any political appointees in place?

A: I try to avoid signaling what a Cabinet will look like. I can tell you this: I do think that Secretary Gates has brought a level of realism and professionalism and planning that is worthy of praise. I think that the Pentagon is operating more effectively. I think he has improved greatly the relationships with the Joint Chiefs and the military generally.

Q: He just fired one of the members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

A: Well, that's OK. The truth is, part of improving relations is improving accountability.
