windows turning translucent when inactive

You know, I loved this feature at first because I bought Windowshade X from Unsanity years ago and I love being able to make windows translucent, minimize in place them, etc. I never liked the way they're automatically shrunken to the dock and unavailable otherwise.

So anyway, not long ago I bought Shapeshifter and in the process of installing it, it works great, but for some reason any time now I move away from one window onto a nother, the inactive ones turn translucent, and I can't figure for the life of me why.

There IS a feature in Windowshade X under 'Advanced', a checkbox that lets you create settings for inactive windows, but it's off now. even right now my sysprefs window is translucent and became that way the moment I left it; when i control tab back to it, it solidifies.

So perhaps someone could help me find out where this is coming from, because while it's nice to be able to see my background thru the windows (digital blasphemy, anyone?) sometimes I need the windows to stay opaque; I mud in one window and have an rtf file of my equipment that I need to see even though the window's inactive.

Re: windows turning translucent when inactive

Hmm, no replies. I'll try disablin' stuff one by one, it's not that much of a problem but it bothers me it can't be readily fixed. Anyway, i've already tried maxing out the slider so the windows are always solid in Windowshade, that's the only place I know of that lets the user set translucency...i also happened to install menumaster just cuz i was at unsanity.com and I thought it was free but then I saw its gonna expire in a few days, so I'll have to remove that too.

Anyway, i'm done talkin' to myself.

Re: windows turning translucent when inactive

I stopped using Unsanity's APE because of quirks such as that.  For a few years whenever my Mac started acting funny I would disable APE and the problem went away.

I do not mean that their software is bad.  I really like many of their products.  I just got tired of Apple breaking them each update.

Re: windows turning translucent when inactive

Yeah thanks for responding, I'm not sure what to think of it, and I only reboot my machine once every week or two, but I'm a big fan of Unsanity's stuff, I've had Windowshade and Fruitmenu for years, to me they're both essential, I can't believe how apple dumbed down their own finder.

Also earlier I remembered tabbed windows, remember those? Where you could collapse them against the side of your screen, i'm off to hunt those down now, I know they're possible.

Another key utility is A-Dock, cuz one dock ain't enough.
