MacLife.com Reboot
Hi Everyone,
Until Wednesday morning, July 9, MacLife.com will be in sleep mode. That means no new content will be added to the site while we work on the brand-spanking-new site that will launch Wednesday morning. You can still comment on the site, check out the articles and use the forum.
Just a quick warning, the forums may act a bit strange for the next 24-hours. Don't be concerned.
We're all really excited about the new site and once you see it, we hope, you'll be just as excited.
Some of the new features of MacLife.com 2.0 are:
- Printing of articles
- Improved navigation
- User accounts
- And much, much more.
Until MacLife.com returns, you can check out the Mac|Life Twitter feed for the latest Apple news. If you're curious what's going through the mind of someone trying to get a new site launched, you can check out my Twitter feed.
See you all on Wednesday morning!

Oh my!
Lions and tigers and bears!
Now I am afraid, very afraid.
I hope my account remains during the upgrade.

Reset everyone's post counts!

Naw, just pretend to reset one person's postcounts so we can laff while he freaks out.
Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.
Unless you become as little children, there's no way you will believe this crap.

Thank you for volunteering to be the reset target, user!

Hi all,
We are working on an issue with the avatars. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

I like the changes, subtle.
Except that it won't play Yankee Doodle Dandy for me.

Re: MacLife.com Reboot
Some thoughts from the "everyone's a critic" department...
Comments = good.
But comment integration with forum threads is a missed opportunity. That could be a way to pull more current topics into these forums, and a way to create longer session times.
Wider site = good.
But stories feel crammed on the home page, and long lines of text are a usability no-no in the forums. (people can get lost while tracking their eyes from the end of a long line, to the start of another.
New nav = much improved
But that banding has been around long enough. That's your site's show pony, fix that gradient already.

Re: MacLife.com Reboot
May I just say that the flat gray background is driving me insane!
Also, the welcome page at maclife.com is a little bit cluttered and disorganized.
Plus, the ads that appear right below the upper navigation bar make the site look like crap.

What? You don't like the Pinstripe to Unified gradient?
I've seen worse.
Ads? What Ads?

Yeah, but when everyone has the same critique, that's a different story.
