Applications on the touch
I just got a touch.
Do I have to get the software upgrade 2.0 to run the applications? Even if they are free applications? ( I want to get Pandora and AIM to start with) I think its wrong of apple to make us pay 10 bucks for a software update. At least sony gives free updates for the PSP.

Yeah. Apple's not Sony, thank god.
Yes, you need the 2.0 software to use the 2.0 features. Did you JUST get your touch? If you bought it some time after Friday you should havd gotten the 2.0 software for free.

Re: Applications on the touch
I got it two weeks ago with my new Mac, but I just started to use it over the weekend. I guess I will just have to spend the 10 bucks. Thanks for the advise.

Re: Applications on the touch
I upgraded my Touch to 2.0 and downloaded a few apps. I would have gladly paid far more than $10 for the ability to get some of these apps. I've used Epocrates on my Palm for years and now it's available on my Touch, along with all the other great functions. I couldn't be happier.

So I'm not missing anything? The update that cost $20 is now included in the more recent update that cost $10? If you were unlucky enough to update for $20 last month, you basically got nothing for it

I have no idea if the new update includes the old one or not.

Wait. There’s more. Get the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch, and you also get the new features added in the January ’08 update. Google Maps, Mail, Weather, Web Clips, a customizable Home screen and more.

Re: Applications on the touch
well I guess if you waited this long to upgrade it ... then yes you paid for nothing. I had it within 30 minutes of it being released to the public ... even before itunes "knew" about it ... so I don't feel ripped off.

Re: Applications on the touch
I paid the $20 quite some time ago. Now I paid the $10. I'm a little cheesed off but not much. This 2.0 upgrade gave me a few new things like the scientific calculator.
I'm not a doctor but I'll take a look!

Re: Applications on the touch
The main reason I did the upgrade was so I would stop getting that damn annoying reminder page every time I plugged my iPod in
I have yet to find an application that does anything special. All of the free applications need internet, and who's on their iPod when they could be on the internet... Makes no sense.

I am with in wifi range 99% of the time that I use my ipod touch.
But then again I bought my ipod touch for the main purpose of it being a highly mobile internet device / pda.

Don't think this was directly answered. Yes, the $10 2.0 update includes the $20 update from January. If you paid the $20 in Jan, well, you pay again. I'm not going to argue or justify this decision by Apple, but I can say that I'm glad I waited and didn't pay $20 in January and just paid $10 now. As Cobalt60 says, not only does the 2.0 software let you use the new 3rd party apps, but it adds the scientific calculator and lots of other little things.
