Re: Xbox 360 Price Cuts in September?

Getting Netflix isn't that super of a deal on the 360. I have the service already and I can tell ya, the movies they have in Watch it Instantly are not that great. Yeah they do have a few good ones up but thats only about 10%. Rest is mostly crap or so-so movies. Also when you get to the TV series, many of them are incomplete. They'll have a certain amount of the episodes to watch but the others they force you to add the discs to your Q. Picture quality varies depending on the original copy's source. I'll probably use the Netflix on Live, but I wish their Watch it Instantly service was better.

Wonder if I can swap the casing around my 20GB with a new 60GB drive. Reason being is my 20GB goes with my Halo Edition console and a replacement wouldn't match lol.

You had a 22" 16x10 Samsung last I heard, so you'll get the improved image quality too, tho Elite over [any other version] doesn't pertain. Native 1680x1050 support should esp. make H3 look better, but everything will benefit. Hope that's available for original Xbox games.

(Me wonders about 1440x900, but might as well while they're at it).

Yup, that's the monitor at my mom's. Worked great for H3 4p co-op. But I also have a brand-new Dell 2408WFP at my dad's house big_smile

Ooh... me jealous. My 2005 FPW's idea of black is a shade of grey that you can almost read by... and it was almost the same as the CD of that vintage. Still want me one of those new HPs, tho (as if). With the 2408 you can still haz 1080p, no?

Sort of I have a 2 port USB/VGA KVM that I'll hook his computer and 360 to. A 21' CRT from a foot or two away is gods plenty for him.

21'! eek I'd settle for a good 21" APG jobbie!

Assuming the above is the old Apple CRT, it should be plenty, but a shame there's no plan mentioned to scale 4/3 to, say, 16x12. 10x7 is where I'm running my 19" at; 1280x1024 seems aspected to the 5/4 of LCDs. Jackal shields look ovoid at that res on the H3 calibration test. 1280x960 would also be nice.

Re: Xbox 360 Price Cuts in September?

Now shipping: Xbox 360 Pro 60GB

Microsoft's 60GB Xbox 360 Pro has hit store shelves a week earlier than expected, with reports of consoles being spotted at multiple brick and mortar outlets, and now Amazon lists the 60GB Xbox 360 in stock as well.

Just as a reminder, Jasper consoles are expected to begin shipping in August. This is the last major Xbox 360 revision before Microsoft is expected to roll out Valhalla in the fall of 2009.

"Opus" Xbox 360s now shipping from Microsoft repair center

As any Xbox 360 owner that's well versed in the hardware can tell you, Microsoft has developed multiple revisions of the console over the course of the 2.5 years that it's been on the market.

There's the original Xenon design that plagued launch consoles, which was eventually replaced by "Zephyr", Microsoft's first 360 revision to include HDMI output. Last Fall Microsoft began shipping their "Falcon" Xbox 360s with 65-nm CPUs, and now everyone's anxiously awaiting "Jasper", which will mate a 65-nm GPU to go alongside the existing 65-nm CPU.

This particular revision is highly sought after as it's widely believed that the GPU is the culprit behind most Xbox 360 RRoDs.

If you're an early adopter that picked up a Xenon-based Xbox 360 and experience a hardware failure, you'll wait to keep an eye out for Microsoft's latest revision, "Opus", when you get your console back from Microsoft. Opus sports a 65-nm CPU, just like the Falcon consoles that are shipping today. The GPU on Opus remains 90-nm and the console lacks an HDMI output, so no free HDMI upgrade for the early Xbox 360 adopters,* but at least you'll receive a cooler-running, more energy efficient 360.     *{...sigh}

Opus will remain confined to Microsoft's Xbox 360 repair center in McAllen, TX. All consoles shipping today feature HDMI output, whether you purchase an Arcade, Pro, or Elite SKU. Opus will be used solely for Xenon Xbox 360 console owners who experience a hardware failure and are in need of a replacement console.

Re: Xbox 360 Price Cuts in September?

Yes, according to Ars' mole.

Xbox 360 price cuts coming in Sept?

If this article at Ars Technica is true, this September may be the ideal time to pick up an Xbox 360 console if you've been sitting on the sidelines up to this point. According to their source, the entire Xbox 360 lineup will see significant cuts. How significant? Feast your eyes on these prices:

Xbox 360 Arcade (No Hard Drive): $199
Xbox 360 Pro (60GB HDD): $299
Xbox 360 Elite (120GB HDD): $399

With the Arcade currently selling for $279, and the Pro and Elite models at $349 and $449 respectively, the cuts range from $50-$80 depending on the SKU. Ars notes that their source is the same one who told them about the Xbox 360 20GB price cut and the impending release of the 60GB console, so he or she has a solid track record.

With Microsoft's 65-nm Jasper console set to hit retail sometime this month, the price cuts would certainly become more feasible for Microsoft to afford, as the console will be cheaper for MSFT to produce.

Save those pennies, Sci.

Dell gets extremely generous with the Xbox 360 Elite

DailyTech hasn't covered hot deals in a while, but this one was simply too hot to pass up. Dell is currently offering the Xbox 360 Elite for the low, low price of $299.00 with free shipping.

Considering that the regular retail price for an Xbox 360 Elite is $449.99, this deal represents a huge savings. The Xbox 360 Elite of course comes with a 120GB HDD, Forza Motorsport 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance Gold Edition, and two extra faceplates.

Dell Lists Microsoft's Xbox 360 Elite for $299

Already dead, it is back up to $449.

Most likely a typo on the site until somebody tried to buy one at that price.

Gloater! http://homepage.mac.com/oatmeal/MAF/maxes/shakefist.gif

Well, I talked McAllen into fixing mine free after all, so in a few weeks and for little $, I'll haz Boxy back with an Opus mobo. Then Fall Update gives me 1680x1050 support... so I'm OK for less.

After summer. sad

Officially unveiled across the pond.

Bigger hard drive introduced in standard SKU from August 15th for no extra cost

The standard Xbox 360 will now come with three times the hard drive capacity from August 15th, for the same £199.99 price point.

Microsoft’s new 60GB standard SKU will be introduced from this Friday (August 15th) as the platform holder steps up its battle with rival PS3.

“No one device offers the depth and breadth of entertainment that Xbox 360 can deliver and we know consumers need increasingly more and more space to store the amazing digital entertainment content we provide,” said senior regional director, entertainment and devices division at Microsoft Neil Thompson.

Do any of the consoles have, say, external USB mass storage support?

Re: Xbox 360 Price Cuts in September?

I haven't looked into it as deeply as I'd like, but it's intended to network with a PC. Don't know what the limitations are.

Digital entertainment: Amplify your music, photos, video, and TV. Watch progressive-scan DVD movies right out of the box. Rip music to the Xbox 360 Hard Drive and share your latest digital pictures with friends. Make the connection, and Xbox 360 instantly streams the digital media stored on your MP3 player, digital camera, Media Center PC, or any Microsoft® Windows® XP 2005 Edition-based PC.

Maybe you can find what you need, or a lead, in one of the the manuals.

I know the Xbox 360 supports it, and 99% certain the PS3 supports it. Of course, most video files need to be converted into a format that they can decode, but music just works unless it's drmed.

Re: Xbox 360 Price Cuts in September?

Now Best Buy is on board. Leaked ads all point to 9/7 as the day, and $199/$299/$399 price points, Arcade/ Pro/ Elite. Pro has the 60GB HDD. Not surprised if this marks the coming of the Jasper mobo, too.

Oh, and the Fall Update is in November, likely timed for the release of GoW 2.
