iPhone and iPod Charging
Hello Mac Community,
Not really a tech support issue where something is broken just more of a general question. I have the following devices. 4th Generation iPod, 5.5 Generation iPod and just ordered the new iPhone 3g. My old 4th generation iPod came with a wall charger that has firewire dock connecting cable. I currently use it to charge my 5.5 Gen iPod. But you can't sync the iPod 5.5 over Firewire.
I was wondering if I could keep my Firewire charger and use it to charge the new iPhone. I want to keep the phone charged while I am at work so I will have a charger at home and work. Just wanted to know if anyone has tested this. I didn't want to break my phone or if it will even charge the phone at all.
Thanks for your help!

Re: iPhone and iPod Charging
I use an old firewire cigarette lighter adapter to charge my iPhone (and 5G iPod) in the car. Should be fine.

Re: iPhone and iPod Charging
Sadly, you can't charge the new iPhone (as well as other newer iPods) with the iPod 3gen Firewire cable.
You get a nice message saying the iPhone doesn't recognize the adapter.
Similarly, I can't charge my iPod on newer sound docks......silliness all around. Who moved that pin!!??

Re: iPhone and iPod Charging
I will say that my 3rd gen iPod Wall Charger -> Firewire -> dock connector cable does a fine job charging my iPod Touch (same as the iPhone in this matter); just don't even try connecting the iPhone to firewire on the computer.
