Re: Just curious, who uses broadband?

I usually use broadband cable (Adelphia) at home. Most of the time very nice down speed but limited up speed and no fixed IP. At the office we are linked into UPMC via an ATM line so it is always faster. At our place in MD just crappy 56K via a marginally reliable local provider.

768/128 ADSL with SBC/Ameritech. Best service I've had so far, and I've had a bunch.

Re: Just curious, who uses broadband?

Dammit, I just got an e-mail tonight. DirectTV Broadband went belly up, and my sweet 768 (up AND down) SDSL is getting axed in 30 days. sad
Time to start looking into other possibilities.

Try Earthlink satellite if you can't get cable in your area.  It's a two-way satellite, so you get good upload and download speeds.

Re: Just curious, who uses broadband?

I started with broadband using Earthlink's DSL service, and I have to say that their customer service was second to none; however, I found that Cox Cable provided faster overall service (both down AND up) for about $15 less/month, so I switched to accommodate a tighter budget.

Sorry, but EVERYTHING I've read on Satellite says it is great for surfing and email. Not cool for games, way too much lag. MB things have changed. The other problem is the $200-$600 installation fee. Still kinda steep.

Re: Just curious, who uses broadband?

I've got horrible DSL service. It used to be great but now we get random disconnects and anytime I play more than 3-4 maps online I get massive packet loss (85-200% eek) the only way to get it to work correctly after that is to restart the modem and router every 30-45 minutes roll.

However when it's working properly I get incredibly low pings and zero lag.

Re: Just curious, who uses broadband?

That sounds like like what used to happen to me, BJ (from Feb 02 - July 02).
I have 550kbps down/384kbps up DSL from 702 Communications.
