Re: Limewire
No spyware for macs, but all the cool kids use bittorrent for their p2p needs.

Re: Limewire
bittorrent is definitely a good choice, but keep in mind:
torrenting, gnunetworks, and any other kind of p2p sharing is ILLEGAL. I'm not at all saying dont do it, just think before you do. Especially at colleges, they'll often track that kind of thing and believe you me, they'll bring down the full force of the legal hammer.
...but hey, what do I know

uh, no. The downloading of some content may be illegal by some definitions, but the p2p itself is not inherently illegal.

Yeah, just don't go asking "how do I pirate my warezz" or something like that. You can talk about the tech, just don't go talking about pirating. Thanks.

yeah limewire is safe (on the mac), but it sucks. bittorrent is faster and more flexible.

Re: Limewire
I use limewire and I haven't run into anything bad. I also have bittorrent but it is SO slow. Limewire is much faster for me.

Re: Limewire
Bittorrent might be slow if you aren't seeding. There are antileech mechanisms.

It also might be slow if you don't set up port forwarding.

good point. i hadn't done that and was wondering why my torrents were so slow (around 30kbps). I set up port forwarding on my airport network, it increased my download speed to around 120kbps (in general, it varies constantly of course)

Re: Limewire
Ok i think I got misunderstood lol. I won't go ahead and say I download movies while they're still in theaters *cough* but I'm not in any way shape or form against downloading stuff, just dont be dumb about how or where you do it.
And the percentage of people using p2p networks for illegal means far outweighs those using it legally.
god i guess i did come across kind of retarded in that first post

Re: Limewire
I use Limewire and pretty much all I download is stuff that I've owned but lost due to CD scratching or theft, or stuff I can't get here reliably.

Re: Limewire
I am currently, using utorrent in wine, and due to recent events, besides tvtorrents.com for tv shows, I suppose mininova would be my first choice, or TPB,

But remember, it's legal to play ROMs if you delete them within 24 hours!

Re: Limewire
Use what you want, BT, LimeWire. Really it's up to you. EITHER Tool really has nothing to do with piracy. It's just a method for defraying server load for downloads by dividing it up among other people who have already downloaded it. The fact that it makes it easier to distribute things you aren't supposed to with a lower likely hood of getting in trouble is a side track.
Saying that it does have anything to do with it, is like saying ‘all hammers have something to do with robbers’. It’s just a tool, however you look at it, and some people just choose to use it for ill purposes.
Personally I like both for different things. And it just depends on what suits my purpose.
And that Frostwire looks like a good solution too.
