Halo PC 1.08 released
According to Bungie's sawnose, Halo PC has received a new 'pre-release hotfix' that he'd like some community help testing before they get rolled into a real patch for auto-update. If you manage a Halo PC server, swing by his forum post and read about what's been changed, and then grab the patch and give him some feedback on whether things work! Halo PC 1.08 released
Bungie has released a new update for Halo PC - v1.08 officializes the patches made recently to overcome some potential attacks on HPC servers, and as an added bonus, removes the CD check for the game. (There are also patches for Halo Custom Edition and HCE Server.) w00t! Thanks, sawnose. Update: the HCE files are mirrored at Halo Maps, as well. (Louis Wu 15:32:00 UTC) (permalink)

Re: Halo PC 1.08 released
Real question does this patch break compat with Mac clients? I was under the impression we were done with patches because the new ones do.
::EDIT::
The comments answered it. Not only would it break Mac clients it breaks PC clients too. Everyone has to be on the same version number.

Re: Halo PC 1.08 released
I haven't updated yet. We can talk about it tomorrow. Don't want to break compat, would enjoy seeing the CD check gone.

Re: Halo PC 1.08 released
Btw, it's set to Auto-Update today. I forget offhand to block that except killing your connection.
So, I guess do that or don't play.
And of course I wonder if Mac Halo will get its match. Time to check IMG, etc.

Re: Halo PC 1.08 released
Cool.
Important note regarding latest PC update
The latest 1.0.8 PC Halo update broke cross-platform networking. We are aware of this issue and are actively working on an update. We do not have a projected release date, but keep an eye on this page for updates.

Re: Halo PC 1.08 released
No, thank God. Lack of auto-aim made you rely on skill, a decent PC allowed it framerates upwards of 70 instead of 30, and DX9, 1600x1200 goodness gave it graphics the 'Box coudn't approach, save a few shaders that seemed rushed to make ship date (every game has features cut to make ship date). Also a much better save system let you replay great actions instead of losing them forever. If only H2V had the same, but XBL Achievements disallowed that.
I've played 2 & 3 on console, a lot. Hasn't made me not look forward to playing them on PC.
