Mac Halo v2.0.3 patch

Halo UB Update Removes CD Copy Protection
MacSoft has released an update for the Universal Binary version of Halo: Combat Evolved. In addition to adding bug fixes and performance enhancements the update brings the game to version 2.0.3, puts it in sync with the PC version, and removes CD copy protection.

Re: Mac Halo v2.0.3 patch

Ok, that story should carry a caution:

This update works ONLY with the Universal Binary version.

If you have the PPC version, we currently do not have an update. We're evaluating the option of a PPC update, but currently do not have a timeframe for that decision. If you would rather not wait you can download the UB for $5 from MacGameStore and apply the 2.0.3 update.

http://www.destineerstudios.com/support/halo.html

This WILL knock the PPC build out of sync (and network compat) with both the UB and PC versions. That build will not be able to play online or off with either, so hope for a PPC patch or buy the UB.

Re: Mac Halo v2.0.3 patch

I'll download this as soon as I get back to my Mac Pro and report back. I'm on vacation now with only my Air. And, I don't think this patch will help it out much. big_smile

Re: Mac Halo v2.0.3 patch

MM knows what I meant. I'm sure it works; tho a more detailed trial, to see if it's scotched all those original UB bugs, would be appreciated.

What we both have in mind, tho, is running the benchmark, to see if performance really is improved. Graphics improvements were mentioned too; maybe they'll show. Expect a few screens soon.

Ok, I just got back from vacation and downloaded the patch. I really like that the game no longer requires the CD but it appears my average frame-rate has dipped. The game is still more than playable but here are the two timedemos with the exact same settings:

Re: Mac Halo v2.0.3 patch

It's possible that in (hopefully) finally reaching graphical parity /or scotching a remaining bug or three, a little speed was sacrificed when running with all settings up. (Too bad that, apparently, Environmental Sound will never be put in, it's a nice immersion enhancer):

This update also improves performance for PowerPC based systems and some Intel systems, fixes graphical errors, custom multiplayer game type issues and also allows the program to run properly from a case-sensitive drive.

Re: Mac Halo v2.0.3 patch

That would make sense. Environmental sound would be a nice touch. Tank shells sound so much better on the Windows version.
