Maxis: Spore Doesn't Need Demo, Does Need DRM [August 15, 2008, 9:54 pm ET]
Eurogamer has word from Maxis that there will be no demo for Spore, the now-gold life simulation, quoting executive producer Lucy Bradshaw, who also told them "yes, we'll add to the experience," when asked about expansions, but also mentioned plans to eventually distribute the flora editor that was axed from the game. She also addresses the game's controversial DRM scheme, saying
"We do have copy protection, it is a necessary part of our biz, but we've worked to make it something that does not punish the legit owners," Bradshaw said.
"You need to authenticate once at the first install. This happens online. You can install on three separate computers and you do need to register for the online features."
I can install Sins of a Solar Empire on as many computers as I'd like, and I'm only prompted for a CD key when using Ironclad Online for the first time. That is how DRM should be done on PC games (online-capable ones anyways)

Re: Spore Creature Creator 6/17
FYI....
I installed the creature creator on my gaming PC, my gf's PC, and my gf's iMac on her account. When I try to play the game on my account on her iMac I get the "too many computers" message.
It seems it treats each login as a computer....not just the physical computer as one.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I can get around it using Little Snitch to block the Cider...and I have called them to open up more accounts...but they didn't know what I was talking about when I mentioned that.
