Used iPhone for Current AT&T Customer
I'm going to be getting an original 8gb iPhone passed along from a family member upgrading to the 3G model. I am part of an AT&T family plan and was trying to figure out what my options are. I'm under the impression that I can't just drop my current SIM card into it so I wouldn't mind Jailbreaking. As long as I can connect to and purchase apps from the store I'll be happy. I believe it's another $20-30 a month for the data plan, but I can live with just the wifi connection. I would think that I wouldn't get the visual voicemail without getting the plan though. Thanks in advance!
Dont worry Mr iMac you will be back, we'll keep the chocolate warm for you.
Gee, you got a Windows box to blue screen? That's inconceivable!

You should probably talk to AT&T about such things.

Re: Used iPhone for Current AT&T Customer
Only an iPhone sim card will work in an iPhone. You can, however, put an iPhone sim card into any other AT&T phone, and it should work just fine.
The best option for you would be to just activate the iPhone in your name (you do that with iTunes; you don't even have to go anywhere).
You will have to buy the data plan though--It's not an option. On the original iPhone, it's an extra $20 added to your bill. You can keep your existing plan.
You may be able to jailbreak and not buy the data plan, but it would be a pain to have to do that everytime Apple decides to update the software.
