Website

viewing .php files

I created a website through a third party.  The site looks great (template driven), but I'd like to have a copy of it residing on my hard drive.  I've transferred what I believe are the appropriate files to my laptop (via ftp), but I'm confused as to what I need to do to view my website.  It's flash based.  I would imagine that opening the "index.php" file would be a good place to start, but the .php file won't open with anything but TextEdit.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: viewing .php files

A .php file is text. Basically, for the unitiated, it's a script. Unless you have duplicated the entire site on your local computer, it won't work, and may not work correctly then if the paths it uses are not the same as what you have on your computer.

Re: viewing .php files

You will also have to view through a web server that has the version of PHP running that the script was written for also.
