As winter approached, the blackfoot Indians needed to know how much preparation they needed to make.
So they asked their chief how cold it was going to be.

The chief said he didn't know, but he would go to town and call the weather service to ask. He suggested that they start collecting wood in case it was going to be cold.

The next day, he went to town and called the weather service.

Chief: Hello, I would like to know what the weather is going to be like this winter.
Weather Service: It looks like it is going to be cold.

So the chief returned and told his people that it was going to be cold, and they should collect more wood.
They collected wood all week, but weren't sure they had enough. So they asked the chief how cold it would be.

The chief went in to town and called the weather service -

Chief: Last week I called and you said it was going to be cold. How cold will it be?
Weather Service: It looks like it is going to be very cold.

So the chief returned and told his people, and suggested that they collect as much wood as they could find.
The next week, they had collected every piece of wood they could find, and they were wondering if they needed to order additional wood. So they asked the chief, and he said he wasn't sure, but he would go back to town and try to find out.

So he went back to town and called the weather service again.

Chief: Last week you said this was going to be a very cold winter. Could you elaborate?
Weather Service: It looks like this will be the coldest winter ever.
Chief: Really, how do you know?
Weather Service: The Blackfoot Indians have been collecting wood like mad.
