I don't know how to work wireless!

So Igave my girlfriend my old iBook G4 (after a nifty little 'hot rod green' paint job) and she wants to set up the little guy to use its airport extreme to connect to her wireless modem she has here.  Problem is, I've never worked with wireless other than the two days it took my ISP to set up my connection when I moved into my new apartment and I grabbed neighbours signals on my powerbook.  If anyone could please step me through connecting to this modem I would be most appreciative.  (oh yeah, its running OS 10.4.11)

Thanks in advance :^D

Basically, go to System Preferences / Network.    Click "Assist Me" and / or Diagnostics and it should guide you thru it.

the network setup assistant can't find the modem.  If it matters at all the modem is a Speedstream 6520.  Its been a little more than an hour now and I've got to say I'm getting pretty frustrated trying to get this laptop to recoigize the modem.

Try shutting down both modem and router.   Wait 20 seconds.   Turn on modem and wait 30 seconds.   Turn on router.   Wait.    Then try  Network Setup Assistant.
