Ext. Hard drive problem

I have a Western Digital "Element" external hard drive that I formatted Mac (Leopard) from the very start, and its use which I've dedicated to Mac (I'm on a MacBook). I do the occasional file swap with a Windows machine.

One day I decided to help out a friend back up his Windows hard drive to my external one, as we were going to do a clean install of Windows on his machine. I copied over somewhere in the range of 30-40 gigs on my external.

Sometime after the copying is done, I plug the drive to my MacBook, and it tells me:

Disk Insertion

The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer.

Initialize   /   Ignore   /   Eject
     (Action buttons available to me)

Question:

Apple's Disk Utility seems to properly recognize the external hard drive, and even the space left on it, but it won't offer to repair the disk (the option is grayed out). I'm wondering if Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro can help me repair my external hard drive? And if so, which one to use?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

I wonder if this sort of thing happened necessarily because of my cross-platform ways...?
