How do I get back the other half of my ipod screen

Got a new ipod classic and the surprise was that only half of the screen at the top menu is used for menu items and the other half is what ever book covers are stored on the ipod.

How do I get back the whole screen to use and not have to look at book covers?

Been through all the settings, the manual on line, and apple help but no mention of the new half screen.

Thanks for any ideas to try.

I don't think you do... I've got a classic and I've never come across any settings or hack that would let you do that.
