Is it time??? Signs of new Macbook Pro

Hi, did anyone read reuter article today?? The analyst in the article really feel certain time is closeby for the new version of Macbook Pro!!! I have be suffering for a long time, connecting my powerbook G4 to a BIG UGLY Flatron ez T730SH monitor everyday ever since my screen go bad .... waiting waiting ..

Now my question ... how much time after announcement the product available in stores? Here in Jakarta we have okay fast distribute lines ....

BOSTON (Reuters) - Apple Inc (AAPL.O) is expected to unveil new iPod music players -- and possibly price cuts -- at a media event next Tuesday but may not launch a long-awaited update to its MacBook laptop computers until a later date.

... "It's got to be new iPods. That's 100 percent certain," Needham & Co analyst Charles Wolf said. "The only question I cannot answer is whether they will also do new MacBooks."

... Analysts said they still expect Cupertino, California-based Apple to refresh its MacBook notebook PCs soon.

Both Wolf and Hargreaves expect new MacBooks to be announced in the coming weeks, if not on Tuesday.

Re: Is it time??? Signs of new Macbook Pro

Apple has sent out invitations for a music-related event next week, and the smart money is on new iPods.

The invitation, titled "Let's Rock," went out Tuesday morning inviting media to the Yerba Buena Center for the Performing Arts in San Francisco next Tuesday at 10 a.m. PDT. Rumors have been building for weeks that Apple is set to introduce new iPods at what will be its fourth September iPod event in as many years.

We'll be there, and we'll be live-blogging the event, so make sure to come back here next Tuesday.
...

We expect Apple to introduce new notebooks fairly soon, but it would seem a bit odd to try and cram new notebooks into a major music-related event. The old iTunes music-subscription rumors resurfaced last month, so that's a possibility. And Apple's decision to highlight "rock" gives credence (of sorts) to my goal of predicting an iTunes-Beatles partnership to arrive before every upcoming Apple music event, figuring I'll be right at some point.

They always do lappers and iPods at this time of year... right before or right after the back to school promo ends.

Re: Is it time??? Signs of new Macbook Pro

Citigroup analyst Richard Gardner has released a research note claiming that during "field checks" he has confirmed that new MacBooks have begun shipping to stores (from overseas). According to Gardner, the MacBooks feature "very thin aluminum casing, an LED-backlit display and an aggressive entry-level price point.” The news either confirms the existing rumors or is just a wild, swinging for the fences guess based upon existing intel. But it all would line up nicely with an October 14th Apple event. [Barrons via TUAW]

No word on MBPs yet, but something.

The Mac Buyer's Guide recommends "Don't Buy - Updates soon" for MacBook Pros, but my guess now (after the September release of the new iPods) is look for them in January 2009 at Mac Expo San Francisco.

Re: Is it time??? Signs of new Macbook Pro

I don't see why we need a new laptop. The ones that are 7-10 months old are plenty fast as it is, and probably faster than than they should be in 2008 anyway. Apple would be fine resting on its laurels until about summer '09.

"I don't see why we need a new laptop" ..... man!! have you read the post!! The people who buy MBP now before new one come out (like me, who are on last leg of PBG4) will be 7 month behind!! maybe it not make a difference now, but it will make a difference in 3 or 3.5 year when I still have MBP!

Ughhh I really hope it not Jan'09 .... it like torture .... I really hope October 14 (but maybe it wishing thinking!!)

Re: Is it time??? Signs of new Macbook Pro

Regardless of whether it was 7 months old or not when it was purchased, a 3-3.5 year old computer generally, well, is old and sucky. You know that, no matter what you buy, in 40 months everything on the market will four times as fast as what you have. Waiting several months for a 5-10% speed bump is stupid - because 3-3.5 years from the date of purchase, everything on the market will still be around 4x as awesome.

Just buy the machine you need now, smurf buyer's remorse. (and don't break the LCD this time)

Although waiting might save you a couple hundred bucks by driving down the price of refurbs.
