Are the expensive apple iPod earphones worth it?

I bought my wife an iPod for Xmass and she wants to know if upgrading to those expensive ones are worth 40 50 or 60 Bucks.

No.
I bought some with a gift card and they don't fit well with my ears at all.

But you do realize that you can use any ear/headphones you want, right? Seems obvious to most, but some people think they're tied to Apple approved products or some smurf. I use Sennheiser PX200s.

Re: Are the expensive apple iPod earphones worth it?

Ive got no clue when it comes to headphones. Basically I try to stick to mid range prices and the type I think are comfortable. Other than that its buy expensive ones where I dont really know if im getting its worth or cheapo ones that make me feel like Im cheap. my wife wanted the expensive apple pair. I heard they were good, but beyond that unsure if they are really worth it.

I think it comes down to the ear of the beholder; especially for fit.

Re: Are the expensive apple iPod earphones worth it?

I got some Sennheiser CX300 in ear and they are much more comfortable than the standard iPod 'buds.  I did use the iPod's EQ to reduce bass response.  Way too much bass with the stick in your ear canal 'phones.

I am now looking at getting some Audio-Technica on ear 'phones.  They are much closer to the old time surround the entire ear padded 'phones but about 2 inches in diameter.  Sound real good like.

V-moda Vibes

I have tons of headphones....here is my list

Sony MDR-V150 = crap
Sony MDR-EX71 = good
Sony MDR-EX81 = same as 71 shorter cord is most notable difference.  they are different but I couldn't really tell

Sennheiser PX100w - GREAT sounding on ear headphones.  Commonly rated as the best iPod headphone.  Koss portapros are pretty good too but they are awful looking.

V-moda Vibes - the best in ear headphone I have ever used.

I think Apple's in-ear head phones sound better then the freebee headphones. Unfortunately they slowly slide out of my ear and break the little acoustic seal they're supposed to form. When that happens they sound worse then the freebee headphones.

I got a pair of $7 earbuds at CVS, since the white iPod phones basically are a large "mug me" sign.

As a bonus, they sound better.

I have a pair of SHURE earbuds, they come with various inserts to give you a customized fit.

Re: Are the expensive apple iPod earphones worth it?

I'll second the sure. I have a low end one but to me the ec-3's are a great bang for the buck. I used a pair at an airport in MN. they have just about the same effect as noise canceling.

normally I have to turn my Ipod all the way up to drone out the ambient noise in an airport. the EC 3 only needed about 1/4 volume. and probably safer for my ear drums.

I wound up with set of ec-1 instead and they are ok but I still have to turn them up while flying.

they are 100 times better than the stock ear buds.

After using studio head phones to me everything below is garbage ... That said I really like my JVC marshmallows  They are the most comfortable in-ear I have ever owned.

I second the V-Moda Vibes.  Really really great headphones, especially for the price (~$80).  If that's still too pricey, the V-Moda Bass Freq in-ear headphones (~$35) are great too (what I'm using right now on a day to day basis).

Re: Are the expensive apple iPod earphones worth it?

Earphones are all about the fit and the extent to which the listener cares about little musical details.  If cheap ones fit your ears, and they sound good to you, those are the ones for you.  If you don't know whether or not it's a good idea to pay more than you're usually willing for a certain pair of headphones, you probably won't notice much of the difference.  And, buyer's remorse sucks.

I recommend Skull Candy.  Good variety of fits and qualities at relatively low prices.  I like the "rockin' buds".

Good folks...

Less expensive: http://www.headphone.com/products/headphones/earbud/

More expensive: http://www.headphone.com/products/headp … r-monitor/

I doubt I'll ever have the money to replace my Stax electrostatics, but they gave looong, great service. Maybe someday.

Re: Are the expensive apple iPod earphones worth it?

Just curious NARK ... how did the original ipod headphone fit you? I ask this because I figured the gummies would have a similar fit ... and I found the original ipod phone outright painful ...  which is why I went with the marshmallows for yard work.
