With an ethernet cable.
I don't have a PS3, so I don't know if Sony has an XBox-Live like online service. I would assume so, at least for demos and such. But I would kind of assume the PS3 would need a hard drive for it to work right.

Re: anyone know how to n3tw0rk a ps3 to an ol, g4 mac?
all ps3's have hard drives.
and, sony "kinda" has an online service like xbox live.
the physical part of the networking, like dvpierce said, is just with a cable.
then i believe there's a section for network settings in whatever sony calls it's equivalent to the dashboard.
fyi, i don't have a ps3. but i've tinkered with one.

In your sharing section of System Prefences you can set your computer to share internet over ethernet or w/e you like. Hook up an ethernet cable between the two and see what happens. I know Xbox 360s don't often like using shared internet with a wireless Apple, though it was over a year ago when I tried.
PSN is pretty much just like XBlive, except less stuff since their behind, and of course Live gets better stuff on average due to install base, Microsoft backing of course, and Sony's continual "we have no idea what we're doing, really" habits

Whadya mean?
Maclife does not allow us to speak of such things. Now if you're asking of Sony has arcade games like M$ I don't know google it.

Yes, there are downloadable games. There aren't nearly as many as are available on xbox live, but they are out there.

Re: anyone know how to n3tw0rk a ps3 to an ol, g4 mac?
I know this is an old question, however, I'm looking for answers of my own. So, in hopes of pleasing the forum gods...I'll try my hand at answering yours. Considering the age of this post, I'd assume you've already found an answer...maybe.
I, like you, have been looking for a way to link my PS3 to my Mac. My particular issue resides in the fact that I do not have a "media server". What I do have, is a Mac hooked up to several large external drives and a PS3.
After searching around the internet and then reading an article published recently in Maclife, I decided to try Nullriver's Medialink. As usual, with pretty much every piece of software I've ever loaded on to the Mac, the installation was simple and the software is easy to understand.
Nullriver gives you about 30 minutes to test drive this software once you take it "live" to the PS3. If you don't want to spend X dollars on a new or used networkable hard drive, the $20 to register this software is worth it.
Once you've shared the drives and folders you want in the preference panel (you access the panel in System Preferences), accessing the information from the PS3 is simple. A MediaLink icon will show up in the Photo, Music and Video "tabs" on your PS3. Sliding your selector over the icon will reveal the individual folders that you asked to share. The PS3 has no issue with MP3, AAC, JPEG, H.264, DIVX formats that I had on my drives...as far as the rest of the supported formats they list on their website...I wouldn't know.
Probably one of the coolest things I didn't realize the software could do was allow the PS3 to COPY the files over from the Mac. I know this sounds lame, but copying via a flash drive or a USB drive to copy again seemed laborious.
The only thing I find hard to deal with is really Sony's problem. Trying to create a playlist with songs I've brought over (instead of streaming a playlist from iTunes...yes you can do that) is like pulling teeth.
Everything I have has worked fine...with exception to streaming large video files to the PS3. For some reason, they stutter...which I imagine has something to do with the amount of traffic on my network. I'll find out the answer to that, hopefully, later.
Nullriver's MediaLink needs to run on any Mac capable of running OSX 10.4 or later.

Re: anyone know how to n3tw0rk a ps3 to an ol, g4 mac?
Somewhat relatedly...
Next PS3 update to include revamped Playstation Store
One item PS3 critics have been in universal agreement about is the user interface for the Playstation Store: it was clearly designed as a 3-foot UI for users with a mouse. Fortunately Sony is taking steps to address this with the next PS3 firmware update, version 2.30. The new interface is no longer web-driven, sporting a new menu system with 8 main categories. The Playstation store also features a new preview system, so you no longer have to leave the store to watch videos and screenshots.
Sony has updated their Playstation blog with a video walkthrough of the new store, which should go live by mid-April. Movie buffs will also be glad to hear that the new update will also add DTS-HD Master Audio output for Blu-ray videos as well as support for DTS-HD High Resolution Audio.

They make it sound like "users with a mouse" is some elite class of users. You can plug any USB keyboard or mouse into the PS3.

I don't read it that way. I get, "It looks designed for viewing from close up," not from the couch-to-TV distances typical of console use.

Hmm. I actually think the PSN is quite usable from couch distance. The main PS3 interface is the part that's so small as to be nearly illegible.
