MacBook Airport Extreme replacement options: 3rd party cards?

So my gf has a MacBook with what I hope is nothing more than dying Airport card. The computer is out of warranty, and fairly old. My question is, I have a Dell 1390 miniPCI express WLAN card that I was going to put in a PC laptop, and I know for a fact that the hack mac community has verified the dell card has a working chipset for use with mac.

So do you think it'd be OK to try putting that card in a MacBook? Airport Cards are n't that much more expensive, I know, but I don't want to spend extra money until I verify that it really is the Airport Card that is going bad.

Thanks for any help.

You sure it's physically compatible with a MacBook? Here's a pic and here's the replacement guide.

That's what I'm asking. It has the same pins or whatever (Idk what they're called...teeth?) to connect to the computer, and the screws/antenna connectors are the same place.

I'm wondering if anyone's replaced an Airport Extreme with a 3rd party card.

Re: MacBook Airport Extreme replacement options: 3rd party cards?

i have not seen it discussed around here before.  but i have read that people have gotten dell wireless mini-pci express cards working in macbooks.  apple resellers also sell actual 802.11n airport cards for MacPros for $50 and those are compatible with macbooks.
